Jeep Mod Question

I own a 5speed manual transmission 4 cyclinder 99 Wrangler TJ. College age son drives it and likes to play in the mud at times. He wants to add a 4" lift with 33" tires after having to have the transmission rebuilt. Jeep not in greatest shape. I am worried that Jeep will not handle modifications and will csonstantly be in the shop if he continues to "play" in the mud. I believe that I would be better off selling it and getting a 6 cylinder and allowing him to make modifications at a later time. What kind of experiences have people had with making these type of modifications to a 4 cylinder?

Re: Jeep Mod Question

Play in the mud? If your son wants to play in the mud with that 1999 5 SP 4 CYL, let him have at it. If during the playing he tears it up, not much of a loss. I had one just like it and it would not fall out of a tree unless you pushed it! When you start talking about putting larger tires, rims, and a lift on that Jeep, you are talking about spending a lot of money with no end in sight. Jeeps are like boats, a hole in the water you throw money in. I have a 2003 Wragler Sport 4.0L with 5Sp and a turbocharger, and a 2012 Rubicon. The Jeep parts and repair place recognizes my voice on the phone when I call. That is BAD for me and good for them!

If you want to spend money and go out and play in the mud, get a later model 4L six.
