Re: Jeep Wrangler reliability - better info

We've updated our reliability stats for the Wrangler to include owner experiences through the end of 2015, about eight months ahead of other sources. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year--lower is better:

2015 Wrangler: 14, low
2014 Wrangler: 36, moderate
2013 Wrangler: 19, low
2012 Wrangler: 26, low
2011 Wrangler: 12, low, very small sample size
2010 Wrangler: 28, low, small sample size
2009 Wrangler: 42, low, very small sample size
2008 Wrangler: 23, low
2007 Wrangler: 84, moderate, very small sample size
2005 Wrangler: 31, low, small sample size
2002 Wrangler: 73, low, very small sample size

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2014 Wrangler: 74, < 1
2012 Wrangler: 90, < 1

No stat, or a small sample size? Then we especially need more owners involved for that model year.

Re: Jeep Wrangler reliability - better info

Would be interesting to see how mileage figures into this as well. Repairs per 100 cars would seem to get awfully skewed by people who use them as DD's and put tens of thousands of miles on them per year versus someone who only drives occasionally.

Likewise (particularly for the Wrangler), driving styles can also be a major contributor, especially if you use it for off-roading more often than not.

Re: Jeep Wrangler reliability - better info

We post the average odometer readings with the stats on the site. The averages for the Wrangler are in line with those for the average car, and aren't nearly as low as those for sports cars.

We would exclude repairs due to use far beyond what the vehicle was designed for. I've come across few if any such repairs for the Wrangler or other serious SUVs. The suspensions and drivetrains seem quite solid. Now if they could just engineer the roof so it wouldn't rattle or leak...

The main thing that improves our information is having more participants. Sample sizes have been running low for model years before 2012.
