Re: Jeep's Alpine Speaker System Weatherproof at CES 2015
I'm an Android guy so I'm excited to see how well the new Android Auto works. I'm looking at either the AVIC-7100NEX, AVIC-5100NEX or AppRadio 4. The 5100NEX has a removable face that the other two don't.
I initially thought AppRadio was what I wanted, then I decided on NEX because of the DVD capability. But then I starting thinking that with Notebooks, tablets, cell phones and laptops these days, I have plenty of devices with movies and entertainment that I don't really need to add my car stereo to that list. Plus all the movies are going to Blu-Ray and so DVD only devices are becoming outdated quickly.
I'm leaning back towards the AppRadio 4 with the Android connection kit along with cable for my classic iPod so I can control it through the radio. I love the clean flush look of the AppRadio 4 vs the NEX which protrudes out a little at the bottom. I had an iPod setup on my previous vehicle with a previous generation Pioneer stereo and I loved being able to control it through the deck rather than having cords plugged in to the front of the deck.
Over the past 15 years I've had my vehicles broken into and the stereo's stolen three times in three different states (all in nice neighborhoods). So I'm weighing my options on stereo safety features.
