JK Gas Pedal Sticking!!! DANGER

2014 Jeep Wrangler JK Gas Pedal Sticks in FULL Throttle! Manufacturer defect! The stock gas pedal assembly is a serious danger for drivers and needs to be a recall item before people die!

My jeep jk has 19,388 (low) miles on it. Purchased new. All parts are stock. When driving on the freeway at 45 mph, I was accelerating in speed and the gas pedal 'clicked' at the floor and would not come back up, leaving the engine rpm high and the car accelerating without me being able to reduce speed or stop the vehicle. My transmission is a manual transmission. I used the clutch to disengage the engine while driving at 60 mph on the freeway
. I was unable to pull over. I coasted for 400 meters then attempted to re-engage the engine by popping the clutch. This was successful. I was driving uphill at a 10% incline. Date: 6/26/2016.

What kind of floor mats do you have?

Re: JK Gas Pedal Sticking!!! DANGER

They are not stock and are deep groove textured, and being a forner Toyota Camry owner with floor mat recall for acceleration problems very similar to the JK, I inspected the location and placement of the mat under the acceleration pedal and although the mat interference with pedal function remains a possibility, I found the mat to be safely located back from behind the pedal and seated correctly and not too high. I found the mat to not appear to cause any interference visible or testable when I tried to repeat the "sticking pedal" while parked at a gas station.

you need to file a complaint here Vehicle Safety | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)

but as you probably know, same as the toyota cases, no one will take your side.

I would buy one of those looping cameras and mount it under the dash with a clear shot of the accelarator and your feet.

Re: JK Gas Pedal Sticking!!! DANGER

I have never heard of this happening in a JK, but I'd figure it's a floormat. You already did yourself in though in terms of a recall - you can't file a recall for how aftermarket products affect a vehicle. you stated you're using deep grooved aftermarket floormats, they aren't stock, and there's no reason to recall vehicles for an issue that doesn't exist on stock vehicles. Take the floormats out, put stock ones back in, and if you have an issue after that I'd take it to a dealer to see what's going on first, and then file a report if needed.
