JK glove box light

Yeah, I know it's a Wrangler...I know you're supposed to use a flashlight, or build a fire for illumination, but I wanted simple light to come on when I opened my glove box. I don't understand why one wouldn't be standard. Anyhow, fun, easy little project. I got everything at "The Zone". The switch is just a little too big for the existing hole, so I had to widen it and make it a little taller. Easy to do with a sharp utility knife or an oscillating multi-tool. Run power to one leg of the switch, run the hot from your light to the other end of the switch, and run the light's ground wire to a ground. It's that easy. I found a steel support above the glove box that was a perfect spot for a stick-on LED strip.

When I closed the glove box, the light went off, but not consistently....so I added a little stick-on clear bumper to the inside of the door so it would make contact every time. Ignore that steel nut in the photo. That's for something else.

I think the switch ran me like $10, which is way more than it's worth. The size and shape makes it look factory though, so I'm very happy with it.

Re: JK glove box light

Thinking about doing one for the console now. I am in there way more than the glove box, but definitely like your idea!

Re: JK glove box light

I thought about that too! The same switch would work because it's so compact. The reason I didn't do it is because I went with a pretty strong LED in the soundbar and I can see fine in there, but I might do something eventually so I don't have to turn the domes on every time I want to see what I am doing.

Awhile back, I installed an auxillary fuse block under the steering wheel, behind the knee panel. I think it has 6 or 8 fuses. Each accessory I've added runs to that. You don't need to go through all that trouble though for a glove box light. You can easily tap into the aux power plug.

Another option I considered was running my glove box light off of the courtesy light circuit so I can turn it on if I needed it by turning on my interior lights, but this switch was way slicker.
