Just picked up an 01 TJ
So I went down and picked up a 2001 TJ. Red, 4.0, automatic, 179k on the body, 100k on the engine. The frame looked solid, maybe surface rust. But the body had some really nice paint but the usual rust spots on the rear door at the lower hinge, both rocker panels in front of the rear wheels, and on top of the fenders. Otherwise, it was nice. Interior was damn near perfect, had a few extra tops, a 4" lift, 33" tires with about 50% left. All in all... I think it was a good buy, it even came with the last 2 years of service records.
I should have looked at it a bit harder because now I can see the frame has some spots where the rust is a bit flakey... but not at the trailing arms... and the drivers floorboard has a rust hole. The drive back was one hell of a nail biter because it was all over the road when you hit 60mph or higher. But I got it home, started replacing some minor parts... wider fenders on order, dual stabilizers, will most likely weld in new floor pans, and finally get all the services done just to have a fresh start.
