Led dash and footwell lights - 2015

I'm looking to swap out the green led accents in the dash/instrument cluster for blue LEDs. I already swapped the overhead bulbs, and am working on the footwell lights, but the cup holder led accents and the dash/cluster are still green.

Has anyone attempted changing the led lights in the cup holder or instrument panel?

The dash lights are COB - chip on board. I looked at them when working on the Jeep but didn't tackle the project yet. It would require unsoldering the existing LED chip and soldering a new one in place, not something that's fun to do.

I haven't even looked at the cup holders, but someone had yanked it out by accident and posted the issue with getting it put back together. This would be a good project for finding a wrecked JK to tear into first.

Re: Led dash and footwell lights - 2015

Ya, I ended up taking off the footwell LEDs from the bracket and wiring 2 pre-wired 3mm LEDs to the appropriate wires (1 when the door opens, 1 when the lights are on). I used a dremel to sand the light in order to diffuse the light itself, and it works perfectly! So great that I ran 3mm LEDs under the driver and passenger seats so there are footwell LEDs lit for the backseat now too! Love it!!

I didn't even see you mentioned the footwell lights. I had a writeup I did for mine, but sounds like you basically did what I did in the end. Glad to see you got that done.

I have been looking into a colored led lens to go over the existing COB lights in the dash but I haven't found exactly what I need yet. Maybe this will give you an idea to look at too. Due to it being LED, you'll want a heat resistant lens tinted darker than what you want to see. The color red, for example, would be a lens that is a darker red since the LED will wash it out to a pink in some cases.

The biggest issue will be regarding color. If you want a green or blue tint, it's usually easier to do, unless you want that super dark blue or green. With red, it washed out to a pink often enough, even white LED behind a red lens will wash out, that's why so many are red LED behind a red lens or clear lens.
