Let's talk leather

Ok, I'm ordering a 2016 Rubi and want tan leather seats bc I'm in Texas. I want the premium sound system as well so I was going to order the Premium Sound and Leather package for $2k, but the dealer says the Premium katzkin leather seats only come in black. So if I want tan leather seats (and presumably lower quality than the katzkins), I have to spend $1,350 plus $945 for the 9-speaker system, which means I'd be spending almost $2,300 for a lesser product??? Help me understand this insanity.

Re: Let's talk leather

They're basically forcing you to buy they way they want to sell their items. If you dare change it up, you'll pay more. Heh, I wanted Nav im my Laredo. It would have cost me over 5000.00 to do so. So I went without.

If you want tan, you have to buy it the way they sell it. Or convince them that they'll lose a sale if they don't knock off at LEAST 300 dollars off the combined price of the tan leather and 9 speaker system. 300 dollars is EASY for them to absorb. They might pretend that their kids will have to eat Ramen for the next 3 weeks, but don't get fooled. They make bucks on whatever they sell you. If they don't give you what you want, start to look unsure and antsy, and start looking at your watch (wear one) and the door.
Salesmen look for these as signs that they are losing the sale and will make attempts to keep you there.

Hope this helps you.

Actually, its more like a medium gray.

Jeep sends your Wrangler to an outside vendor who installs the "aftermarket" Katzkin leather seat covers. Honestly, if you want a different color, you might as well order cloth, and have it installed yourself in any of the dozens of colors Katzkin is available.

What proof do you have that such is even close to being true?

This is true. For all we know, Katzkin could be superior in clever naming only.

Katzkin is a premier company, they have done many interiors for SEMA builds

Re: Let's talk leather

It's borderline common knowledge at this point that Katzkin aftermarket is considerably thicker and better quality than a majority of the leather you get from the factory (outside of luxury vehicles). Only downside on Katzkin is no matter who the installer is, it will never be quite as tight-fitting as leather from the factory. It is what it is on that one.

And Jeep buys from Katzkin the same leather used for SEMA builds?

I am just not sure that the Katzkin leather installed with the Premium Sound and Leather option, is the same leather one can buy at an auto upholstery shop.

I share your pain, but in a different sense. I live in the snow belt, and feel that a limited slip rear axle is a VERY worthwhile option. EVERY vehicle I've had, over the last 40 years, has had one, either as standard, as it was with my 2 4x4s, or as an option, with my regular cars.

I went to buy a Jeep GC, earlier this year, and found that in order to get an LSD, I had to A) order the ORA II package, for an additional $2400 FIRST; and then B) I had to "upgrade" to either the V-6 diesel, for $4400, or the Hemi V-8, for $3000. In other words, at least $5400, to get what should be a $100-200 "stand alone" option......

BTW, my GC is black, with the basic tan interior. I think it look pretty good.

So, Katzkin doesn't ever make any lower cost (lower quality) leather covers, even for a large contract from Jeep?

While I don't know about Katzkin, I have seen many times over the years, a company will produce a lower cost, but same name, product for the auto manufacturers. One example that comes to mind, from many years ago, was Goodyear Eagle GT's. The tires that were so highly praised in the magazines had 4 plys. Those were the ones sold at tire stores. The ones from Detroit had only 2 plys, but still said Eagle GT on them.

Re: Let's talk leather

^No ...why would Katzkin want to ruin their reputation for selling quality leather?

Fyi ..there are 1000s of configurations, materials, and colors that they offer. You can even add a logo of your choice.

You also have the option to go with full or partial leather.
Partial is what you're getting with the Mopar part.

I had it installed in a car ~13 yrs ago and the quality far surpassed anything being offered by most manufacturers at the time. I'll eventually be swapping out my current Altitude seats for Katzkin and installing them myself.

I say go for the Katzkin but configure them with the options of your choice.

Re: Let's talk leather

if you go to the katzkin website you can design your leather seat covers, print off the order sheet and take it to the dealer for them to have the install done. not sure how it works but might be worth looking into
