Looking into a JK

Came across a 2012 JK, 2 door with 90k miles, 4WD, and comes with the hard top. It's at a dealer that is asking just under $19k. It's in overall great condition (very minor exterior issues), has a lift and aftermarket rims/tires already which is a plus for me. I'm currently in a '08 GC that's already paid off. My question for you JK owners is whether or not it's worth looking into as my next daily driver. I know it won't be the GC, but more concerned about the miles more than anything. Especially, when you consider the price they're asking. Haven't test drove it yet. Went by today (dealership closed) and took a good a look of the outside. Did notice that two rear tires were practically brand new, but two front and spare tires looked like they had about a year or less of tread. Is it worth it? Too many miles? Possible problems to look into or consider?

Feedback would be appreciated.

How many miles on your GC? Trying to see which vehicle has less.

How are the tires on your GC? Trying to see which would need new shoes soonest.

Its a crapshoot on the JK to know if the lift, tires, and wheels were just for show, or the vehicle has had the crap beat out of it truly off-roading.

153k on the GC on second set of Goodyear Forteras. They have about a year left in them. I'd probably keep the GC for now. Couldn't tell if it was "off-roaded" at any time. I did see Rough Country shocks, but couldn't get a more in depth look. Again, my main concern is the amount of miles it has and what they're asking for price. $19k seems a bit high for that many miles, on top of the fact it's no longer "factory" with the upgrades (wheels, lift and aftermarket head unit to say the least).

Plus, I'd have to finance as I don't have $19k handy.

Re: Looking into a JK

Without more information it's hard to know if 19k is an acceptable price or not. What trim level is it (Rubicon etc)? What are some of the major options?

Re: Looking into a JK

19.5k Seems a bit steep to me, but most of that is probably because the 20" rims aren't my personal style. In general a good estimate of value is KBB + 50% of the cost of added parts (lift, wheels, stereo not including labor).

As a side note if it hasn't been re geared from the factory 3.21s it's going to be pretty sluggish on 35s.

Re: Looking into a JK

KBB puts it at $19k. Hard to believe. I'm gonna go and at least test drive it. I don't need another vehicle right now, so if doesn't work out I'll be fine. Not too big on 20" wheels either, but I could live with them. If I traded my GC in, I could probably get about $3k, which could go in as a DP. Maybe if the 90k miles on the Wrangler is that much of an issue, it's probably not meant to be I guess.

Also, I see the TPMS warning is showing. Either there is a bad tire that's loosing air, or the previous owner never had the system re-flashed for the bigger tires. I would make sure that the dealer addresses the cause, as part of any deal.

Re: Looking into a JK

Saw that too, but wasn't a make or break for me honestly.

Found a '14 on Autotrader for $26.5k with 43k miles. Very similar, but has additional upgrades. Silver in color.

Hmmm...

Re: Looking into a JK

WaltA, I spoke the dealer earlier and they said they had sent the car to a Jeep dealer to have them take care of a recall. I saw the warning light and immediately thought it could be low pressure from outside temperature. Once I check it out formally, I'll be able to address the issue. I have a Hypertech Max Energy programmer for my GC, but it isn't compatible with this year Wrangler. I was hoping I could use it to reprogram the tires IF I did get it.

Curious, why? Odometer tampering?

If you saw a vehicle that had a lot of dings, dents, and scratches all over the body, would you think it was well cared for? While, someone who is selling might fix those, they tend to forget to do the same with the interior. To me, its a residual telltale sign of a lot of hard use.
