Ordering new JK: 430n VS. 730n - Opinions?

Hi all, I'll be ordering a 2016 2 door Sahara when the "order banks" open up for the 16's. My question is - is the 730n worth the extra $$ over the 430n? Has anybody here had both? I've had the 430n & I like it a lot...that said, as I'm ordering the last year of the JK, I want it to be really special & if the 730n is really better - I'll get it. Thanks in advance - Ted

I never had a 430, but I love my 730 in my GC. I've read some people don't like the 430 because the screen is too "busy". Also with the 730 you automatically get the Uconnect.

Get the 730. The Nav is a little more complex to use, but is more accurate and feature rich. The 730 supplements satellite positioning with inertial sensors. You also get split screen Nav/Audio displays. I don't think the 430 has Sirius Traffic Link or the feature that tells you when a song from a "Favorite Artist" is playing on another Sirius cannel. You get 5 years of Sirius Traffic and Travel link included with the 730 now, too.

PS: On second thought, you may want to pass on the 730 if you really like the Garmin nav on the 430. I seem to recall a lot of 430 users being disappointed with the less user friendly NAV interface of the 730.

Hi - thanks for the advice. I do like the Garmin & honestly, I'm not that "tech savy"...so - I'm still up in the air here. Thanks, Ted

Re: Ordering new JK: 430n VS. 730n - Opinions?

The 430N uses Garmin navigation. The 730N uses Harmon navigation (Tom-Tom like). Its really a person choice if you like one over the other. Though, I'll add, that the 430N does not include the micro-SD card slot like so many other Garmin units, making mods/personalization/upgrades difficult if not down-right impossible.

The 730N has built-in Bluetooth (doesn't require the Connectivity Package), dead-reckoning (if you loose GPS signal) and bread-crumbs (find your way back home from the wilderness).

Re: Ordering new JK: 430n VS. 730n - Opinions?

My 2012 had the 730N and my current 2014 has the 430N. Get the 730N, I miss the little things, Radar Map I could access without digging my phone out, better onscreen menus for phone set-up, and just seemed like a much better unit.

With either unit I recommend a lockpick and a back-up camera(can't believe this is still not a factory option.) Once I put my camera on I realized even more how little you see out the back.

Thanks for all the great information - Probably going with the 730n - How much more $$ is it? If the connectivity package is standard. Is the 730n more $$ that connectivity pkg. + the 430n?

The Connectivity Package is more than just Bluetooth.

So, the Connectivity Package drops from $595 to "only" $245 when ordered together with the 730N.

Except on the Hard Rock, which is the only model that comes standard with the Connectivity Package. Because of that, they drop the price of the 730N instead, from $1,895 to $1,570.

Again, if you only want Bluetooth, you don't need to order the Connectivity Package with the 730N because the 730N includes Bluetooth. If you want Bluetooth with the 430N, you have to also order the Connectivity Package (even if you don't want any of the other stuff included in that package).

Check the 2016 thread. I thought I remember reading they are dropping the 730.

Here is a good comparison between what the two nav system screens look like (courtesy of Jeep):

True, but not by Milous nor Pat, yet.
