Pulling Boat with JK

I have a 2016 JK with trailer tow. It is rated at 3500 max. I know that this max is basically a legal thing for Fiat/Chrysler. I want to tow a 20 foot Baja Islander that weighs approximately 4200 lbs with gear and fuel. Thoughts? Have you towed with a JK at max or over and tell me your experience. I am not looking for the skeptics or the lawyers on the page but rather the ones with the practical experience. Thanks!

Also, towing will be basically around town to ramps etc. How do they perform at ramps with varying degrees of grade etc?

A 2016 JK has a 2000 lb tow capacity. A JKU has 3500 lb.

Re: Pulling Boat with JK

Not redundant - OP states they have a JK. JK= 2000lb towing not the 3500lb they state. JKU=3500lb. I tow a 3500lb loaded travel trailer with a JKU without issue but I wouldn't push it to 4200lbs and I wouldn't tow the 3500lb camper with a JK.

Pulling Boat with JK

I've towed our 16ft Four Winns Unlimited that with its trailer, fuel, gear is right around 3,500#. Around tow it did fine, but on the interstate it felt like the tail was wagging the dog at times, especially in the wind or through the curves. It'll certainly do it, but it's not ideal IMO. I think if you're mostly staying off the interstate you'll be ok. On the interstate just be prepared for some white knuckle moments. My Rubicon unlimited had the tow package and 4.10's also.

Good point I'm on 37s but with 5.38 gears. I wouldn't tow over 2500lbs on the highway without at least 4.56s personally.

Re: Pulling Boat with JK

After re-reading the OP's first post I wanted to clarify that my wrangler was a JKU. If yours is a jk prepared to have your hands full with that load.
