Radio Problems

I have a 99 wrangler sport that I bought from a kid in Texas this past summer. He had installed a subwoofer and amp along with a new radio that is satellite and bluetooth compatible with USB and Aux jacks. I don't know if this is a common problem or not, but sometimes the radio seems like it shorts out because when I start my jeep the radio will not come on. I have to remove it from the dash and completely unhook it and then it will work again. I had to remove the sub and amp recently because it was improperly installed and drained my battery with in two days of non-use. Would any know if the badly wired amp would have affected this, or could anyone point me in the right direction. I know it is a vague question, but any advice is helpful.

Re: Radio Problems

If they wired the amp wrong there's a good chance that they could have wired the HU wrong to. I would check all the wiring for the HU and make sure it is right. Since you've had the HU out did they use the adapter harness or did they cut the factory plugs off and splice the new HU harness to the factory wires?

Re: Radio Problems

they used a harness to install the radio. I saw in different posts that some radios will not work with jeeps because of a different type of something that jeeps run on. Maybe this is the problem?

Re: Radio Problems

Can't say I've heard that before? You need to get in there and check all the wiring and do some testing with a test light. Make sure you're getting a constant 12v from usually the red wire. And check to see if you're getting 12v from the accessory wire usually the yellow wire when the key is on and no volts when the key is off. Also check to make sure the ground is good. What brand HU is it?
