Dunno on the updates.... It seems it will tether through your phone or can use a 4g LTE dongle... It would seem the technology is pretty high though...

But I can tell you that all the NAV radios seem to require you purchasing map updates... Although you can always screen mirror your phone for nav??

As far as the Sirius is concerned you should be able to utilize the cars Satellite antenna with:

iDatalink - Maestro - SAT1

That would probably save any complex wiring but you may still need a Sirius receiver which is something like $70 on crutchfield with a $70 mail in rebate making it free...

I don't think the alpine is on my list anymore, just because of the outrageous price (for what???) it looks like it's going to be the kenwood or the pioneer.
I need to find s dealer who sells both to get demo on both.

Re: Radio upgrade to 730N...can't??

I would try finding someone that has installed either units... that and the dealer showing should help... i only say this because the kenwood seems to gain far more functionality from iMaestro than the Pioneer.

As for myself i think i will wait till january because all the new stuff should get shown about then due to CES. i want the Kenwood 9902s unit but upgraded to have its own independant NAV.

The 9902s is one of kenwoods latest units. it is one of only 2 units that support android carplay.... its failing is that there is no navigation other than to use your phone navigation display on it.

I looked into the 730 and 430, for my 2015 Sport, and ended up going after market with a Pioneer 2700. If I could do it again, I would have spent a little more and gone with one of those Apple CarPlay units, which are really cool in theory. I mean, let's be real, we rely on our phone GPS more than our car GPS, and to have them marry up was an awesome selling point.

Consider something like that, as the aftermarket units aren't very expensive or hard to put in, plus they far exceed the 430 and 730 these days. Buying new, you'd probably save money and have a much better unit.

Check out some on Crutchfield and Amazon. Again, I did the Pioneer 2700 and have Bluetooth, satellite radio, ect.. It looks great and sounds great.

Yeah I agree... I want the compatibility to my smartphone. However, I use Android and am not a fan of iPhone. Not to bash on iPhone at all though.

When checking the radios available I find the Pioneer not to my liking due to checking compatibility with the the cars systems via iMaestro interface it did not bring as much information across as the interface is capable of. However, I do really like the Pioneers due to having the Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatible. But for full compatibility with the car the only radios that did are the Alpines and Kenwoods...

Unfortunately, at this time the Kenwood is the clear choice over Alpine as it interfaces completely and they are starting to support Android Auto. I just need to wait a little bit I think because they seem to only have 2 units that support Android auto at this time and neither of them have a native Navigation but expect you to slave your phones navigation over.

Just my 2 cents....

One last thing to add about aftermarket radios vs a 430 or 730, the ease of adding a backup camera and the audio quality for the speakers. A new head unit is a quick way to improve sound quality even with stock speakers (and so much more if you change your speakers out, given you don't have the Alpine system or anything).

With an aftermarket head unit, you can add an aftermarket backup camera (from Amazon for instance), for like $20 or less, and have it wired up in like 10 minutes. That's what I did, works perfectly, and even looks better than the backup camera I had with my Grand Cherokee. So all in all, go aftermarket

Waiting until after January sounds like a good. Idea. I would hate to do an install now and a new unit introduced in January.

Re: Radio upgrade to 730N...can't??

Well, if you use an iPhone pretty much all the high end Kenwoods will work for you... For myself, I am an android fan and want Android Auto as well as NAV, which of course, doesn't exist this year...

But as I said previously, Kenwood just this year introduced 2 new units that do Android Auto (but missing onboard Nav), so I have my fingers crossed the for CES in January they will take it the rest of the way.
