Rear Bumper LED floods

Today I tore into the rear bumper...the DeWalt multitool is friggin amazing.

Anyhow, so if you cut high and close to the indentation for the spare, there is just enough room to flush mount these. I wired the passenger side to the driver's side, installed an automotive weather-tite plug so I can easily remove them if I need to, and then ran 2 leads out the back of the plastic bumper housing after drilling a 1/4" hole. Everything got routed the same way the hitch wiring goes, up behind the driver's tail, and into the cabin through the existing rubber grommet. These will come in very handy when backing up at night.

Re: Rear Bumper LED floods

What about your reverse lights? Are you using LED's for brake and reverse lights? I have a backup camera a mounted in the spare tire, and with some quality LED's for reverse lights, I'm definitely pleased.

I mean, it's by no means close to those led flood lights you mounted, I'm mainly just saying that so you match LED's with the tail lights and brake lights, otherwise it would look terrible

I have LED bulbs in the reverse lights...color matches. I didn't want to get too fancy with the OE tails because I'm still considering getting the JW Speaker tails down the road. Different color temp LEDS do look crappy when they are on at the same time.

I only wired my bumper lights to work with a switch. They don't come on automatically when in reverse. I don't see myself needing these everytime I reverse.

Re: Rear Bumper LED floods

Update....really didn't like how the chrome reflectors stuck out so much...so I took them out, hit them with 2 coats of VHT NightShades, and reinstalled.

Re: Rear Bumper LED floods

Hows the light output buddy? I've been eyeing these up on ebay for a while now. The reverse lights on my truck suck. I've tried Silverstars, Sylvania Zevo leds and honestly those cheapo pilot leds from walmart are working the best. Not as good as stock bulbs but I like the look and they match the Zevos on my plate lights. Tritons aren't an option as I'm not gonna pay over $100 for reverse light bulbs. Thinking about putting these in my rear bumper with a 5 pole relay so i could run them in reverse or off a switch. What ya think bro?

Pretty damn impressive...they are floods after all. 18W Cree units. I was going to do the same thing you suggested for hook up, but decided to go with just a switch. I'm not using them during the day when I do the majority of my driving, and I've got LED's in my garage-mahal, so even at night, it's pretty bright in there. The biggest issue (night or day) is that damn spare tire, which I removed shortly after I got the JK. BUT...in pitch black, you turn these things on, and you can easily see IN DETAIL at least 100 feet. Put it this way, they are way better than stock Jeep headlights as far as output.

LET THERE BE LIGHT BRO!

My only complaint is that if I'm using them near other vehicles, they reflect off of all those annoying amber reflectors.

The pic whore is here....this is in a pitch black garage.

Re: Rear Bumper LED floods

I have been looking at doing something similar but have a metal aftermarket bumper so I am trying to decide if it would be easier to grab some round lights that I could use a hole saw to mount.

I would be WAY easier with a circular light and a hole saw.

Re: Rear Bumper LED floods

That is what I was thinking to, just got a couple of back up cameras installed to a rear-view mirror monitor and need some extra light. I have a relay under the hood waiting waiting for the extra lights :-)
