hi all,

i am seriously considering getting a new red wrangler unlimited. a colleague of mine suggested that it'll become a cop magnet. i have a pristine driving record of over 15yrs, so i don't drive fast or aggressively, but i was wondering what your experience in getting pulled over has been as an owner of a red wrangler.

thanks,
Lev

I thought that's the urban legion. Any color that makes you stand out from the rest of the herd, grabs the cop's attention.

With your red Wrangler, you'll just need to find a bunch of other red vehicles on the highway, and blend into the middle of them.

They don't look at vehicle color... they look at the radar readout. :D
Exactly. It's simply urban legend that cops look for "fast-colored cars", or high-$$ cars - all they care about is which ones are speeding or violating other laws. If you're in a bright red Lamborghini driving the speed limit while Granny is in a white 1995 Buick Century with a scrape all the way down the passenger side and the left blinker on while doing 35 over, she's the one who'll get pulled over.

Studies have found that the color red is poorly visible during low light conditions, and is percieved as black at night. Shades of red are also poorly detected by peripheral vision.

They found that white is the most visible at night, and lime yellow stands out best against cloudy skies and snowy backdrops.

If the main concern is visibility, you would be better off with Baja Yellow over Firecracker Red on a new Wrangler.

Years ago I had a red Camaro and got pulled over because I was speeding.
The cop told me I saw you coming a mile away. I started buying black cars from the on for awhile.
Point is as he was radaring cars the red on stuck out.
Same thing happened on a really bright blue Corvette as well. :D
