Red colored Wrangler a cop magnet?

hi all,

i am seriously considering getting a new red wrangler unlimited. a colleague of mine suggested that it'll become a cop magnet. i have a pristine driving record of over 15yrs, so i don't drive fast or aggressively, but i was wondering what your experience in getting pulled over has been as an owner of a red wrangler.

thanks,
Lev

Re: Red colored Wrangler a cop magnet?

I thought that's the urban legion. Any color that makes you stand out from the rest of the herd, grabs the cop's attention.

With your red Wrangler, you'll just need to find a bunch of other red vehicles on the highway, and blend into the middle of them.

Any bright color will draw more attention than a silver, black, or white.
I wouldn't worry about it. You'll be in a Wrangler and not a sport car.

My Red JKUR has not attracted undo attention. The car has got to look like it can get out of its own way as well as being a bright color. No one is going to believe our rolling bricks are going to break the speed limit...

Tink is spot on. Unless you add racing stripes and a 2' tall HEMI decal across the the side, cops know we're driving flexible cinder blocks

Had red all my life until now. Never pulled over. It's the speedin' and weavin' that'll get ya. You'll be driving a red brick. Unless you do something silly, They'll move on to the next guy.

They don't look at vehicle color... they look at the radar readout.

Both owners deserve imprisonment for abuse of a Jeep with intent to murder off-road character

Otoh...red is also best color for other drivers to spot you...the way you say you drive ought not cause you any grief with the cops and you might get spotted by that inattentive driver who was going to cop a left in front of you.

Studies have found that the color red is poorly visible during low light conditions, and is percieved as black at night. Shades of red are also poorly detected by peripheral vision.

They found that white is the most visible at night, and lime yellow stands out best against cloudy skies and snowy backdrops.

If the main concern is visibility, you would be better off with Baja Yellow over Firecracker Red on a new Wrangler.

Exactly. It's simply urban legend that cops look for "fast-colored cars", or high-$$ cars - all they care about is which ones are speeding or violating other laws. If you're in a bright red Lamborghini driving the speed limit while Granny is in a white 1995 Buick Century with a scrape all the way down the passenger side and the left blinker on while doing 35 over, she's the one who'll get pulled over.
