Seat Too High, Ran A Red Light

Well I'm 6'4"+. Just got my new JK HR and was running an errand with a friend the other day in an unfamiliar area. I went under a Freeway overpass in the left hand turn lane to get on the freeway. I peered over to the right and saw the green light, traffic was clear, I made my turn without stopping... The light was green.
My buddy pointed out that I just ran a left hand red arrow.
I couldn't see the arrow since my eyes are at the top of the window and the bridge slash/overpass block the view and I would also need to duck down to see it upon exiting the bridge.
Guess it's time to fab a drop down seat bracket before I get a ticket.

Anybody out there selling a drop down kit yet? I realize There's not a GIANT market for these, but there have to be enough of us 6'+'s out there these days for someone to be able to make these and still be able to make a couple bucks.

Never ever thought of such a thing- I just duck down at all intersections to see out (or drive topless and look over). I'm 6'7"... I'm totally interested in knowing about seat lowering brackets as well.

Doesn't your HR have the driver's seat height adjustment? Do you already have it adjusted as down low as it can go?

Yes it does. I have it bottomed out and my head still hits the roll bar.
I'm working with a metal fabricating friend currently. He's trying to come up with a cost effective solution.

I've been using the "Lurch" technique lately... so far so good.

We've bought these for ours. It helps with those pesky stoplights that are mounted almost overhead in some places. It's much cheaper and easier then moving the seat bracket. You wet down the smooth side with water and it just suction sticks itself to the inside windshield.

We should have our 2016 in the next couple of days and I'll report back about my success with the driver seat height adjustment, but I certainly think I'll look into this for other vehicles of ours. Seems like a great idea other than the fact that I'm worried about how to place it somewhere that I wasn't already looking out to try to look forward...

Re: Seat Too High, Ran A Red Light

^ They are really goof proof. If you don't like where it is, just peel it off and wet it down again and try another spot. For the JK I have it above the rear view mirror at the top of the windshield just slightly to the left. I'm shorter, but there are a few lights here they are almost right above me. My wife, the tall German she is, is about 6'3", and she can still see the edge of the light this way.

Also, not sure if this applies or has been checked, but my JK has the seat height adjuster too. I use it with one pump up, she uses it at the bottom level. Make sure that is all the way down as well.

Re: Seat Too High, Ran A Red Light

I may have to give them a try. Even with the seat all the way down, I'm essentially looking straight through the upper tinted part of the windshield anyhow, so all lights will have me looking over the windshield bar or craning my neck to see under.

I am also 6'4. I will need to try this to see if it works.

The seat in the C can go much lower.

Re: Seat Too High, Ran A Red Light

I have a 2014 JKU with a 3in lift and have no issues seeing lights. Even before the lift, just stop where you can still see the light. I'm 6'4" as well and haven't really had many issues. If you like to flirt with the white line, get used to bending your neck to see every light. OR, take the top off. Problem solved....ish. Cops don't like the "I couldn't see the light" excuse.

Thanks for the informative input. Guess you must be all legs.
I have the seat bottomed out and as far back as it can go. Unfortunately my head still rubs the roll bar. Currently working on bracket to drop the seat to the floor, that doesn't look like it was made in High School Auto Shop and is as strong if not stronger than OEM. It's coming along pretty good.
The Sheriff sitting next to me, who pointed out my obvious infraction, just laughed and said, "Damn, if I was working, I could wrote you your first citation, breaking your perfect 30 years driving record." He said he would have let me go with the explanation. I,m far from an angel driver, just observant.
He also sat in the seat, jacked it up to my level and totally understood why it happened.
This is my third Jeep. I've had a 70 and a 76 CJ5 that I've put over 400K on between the two. Never had a sight issue with either.
