secure ventilation for dog in Unlimited hardtop?

With a Wrangler Unlimited parked with a dog inside, to keep from overheating, a simple solution is to remove a roof panel. But the opening is too large to assure the dog remains inside (tying or caging the dog inside is not an option).

Are there other ways to provide secure ventilation for a dog?

I can imagine an alternate Unlimited roof panel that is a metal mesh. Or a roof panel that is more like an adjustable sunroof. Or a fan/cooler system. Or buy a different Unlimited hardtop that has better ventilation options? Or what?

If you have used or seen a practical system, please describe it.

Well, one thing you'll want would be to buy those roof liners that insulate against noise and heat.

Aside from that, I've seen nothing for you. This does remind me of the episode of The Office where they return from lunch to find a dog in a car in the parking lot.

I do have a friend whose dog died in a hot car...not a pleasant thing

Probably better to just not leave your dog in the car.

Well, he was going to leave it in the Jeep...but I agree. I'll bring my dogs and leave them if outside temps are below 70 or if the top is down. I put them in a "Down Stay" in the back or back seat. Worst case scenario, they get up, but stay in the Jeep.

You can put a spiderwebshade underneath the hardtop. And then just open up one panel. The spidewebshade will keep the dog contained inside while still allowing ventilation. Also it fits perfectly with the top off or on.

One bonus is that you get a spiderwebshade which is useful when you're topless in the summer since it provides shade while keeping the open air feel.

or another option would be something like this

Trek Armor is making a sunshade much like the Spiderwebshade now too...only available in black, i think, but can option it to have MOLLE straps down the middle and a built in zippered pocket that's perfect for storing sunglasses or a Lava Jacket
