Security Light Blinking

Last week, while driving my 2014 JKU, I noticed that the little red security system light was still blinking instead of turning off after start. Problem is it doesn't do that consistently. Anyone know why this may happen? Also, how many times should I let this happen before I take it in as a concern?

Thanks!

Typically, that means there is a Sentry Key problem, somewhere. I would get it looked at, ASAP, because such a failure could cause your Jeep to not run (it might fall back into "help, I am being stolen" mode).

Dang...that sux!

Guess I'll try to take it in sometime soon.

Thanks, Walt!

P.S. Here's a side question for you in case you know of this. During acceleration on my 2014 JKU, I hear two sets of sound from the engine bay. First is the typical exhaust "vroom". However, the second is an underlying ringing/clinking type sound. Have any thoughts on this?

On the bottom left side of the steering column, next to the lever that moves the wheel up and down, there is a clip. You will probably need to remove the plastic cover to find it. That clip - if loose - can cause the problem you have. Even if it's tight, you can try unplugging and replugging it and use some electrical contact cleaner on it inside.

After driving in dust I cleaned everything in the Jeep and I unplugged and cleaning a bunch of silt and dust out of a lot of connectors. I loosely plugged it back in so it could dry some more and forgot about that one connector. I had a blinking security light that first drive, and carefully limped home worried I screwed something up. I found the connector loose pretty quick and it was ok.

Re: Security Light Blinking - Update

Haven't had the issue with the blinking security light since. Perhaps it's a good sign.

Regarding the ringing/clinking sound, however, the service manager thinks it may be knocking from the 87 octane gas. I filled-up with 89 octane and haven't heard the noise yet. Why would it do that if the suggested fuel is 87 octane?

Running E10? You may not even have the option of 100% gas in your area though. I'd honestly try another brand, even cheaper 7-11 gas or truck stop gas if you are buying Shell or something "higher grade".

I bought Shell for my TJ when I first bought it, the station was right by my house and only 5-10 cents more and I figured a bit better quality too. I took my TJ in for pinging, they ran tests, but found nothing wrong - but admitted they could hear it too. I ran out of gas away from the area a short time later, and had to fill up at the truck stop. Within a few miles the pinging stopped. I never went back to gas with all those special detergents and cleaners and crud, and never had another issue.

I tested this a bit with the JK too. It seems to prefer 100% gas of whatever is cheap. When we have gone up north there isn't a lot of options though, most gas is blended E10 crud, and I notice the performance drops a bit and it runs a bit rough. If you can find some 100% gas I'd run that, if not, try a different brand of gas - something without those additives.

Yes, I normally run Shell now that Exxon has disappeared from near me. And, yes, no non-E10 around here in DC area. Will need to go waaaay out of town to find any.

Interesting what you say about the brand gas. I may have to try that next time. Counter-intuitive, though.

Thanks!
