Used 2013 JK Wrangler - Need Opinions on Rust and Condition

Hey everybody,

I own a 2-door JK that I bought brand new and looking to add a Rubicon that I found used. Anybody have any thoughts on the rust in the wheel wells and on the front bumper? I'm going to look at it in person today but wanted to get people's opinions on whether or not I should steer clear of buying this JK because its a 2013 in that condition. Is this is a big deal or no?

That is literally ever Wrangler I've ever seen, especially up here in the rust belt. What state are you in and what state is the vehicle in?

I wouldn't let the rust you see in these pics deter you. My 2013 was even a little worse than that. I cleaned and sprayed the undercarriage once I bought it and intend to do that annually after the nasty winters here.

What would you say is good to spray on the surface to prevent any future rust or at least tone it down?

I used rust oleum rust inhibitor rattle cans. If you search the wrangler board for tjxjwj or rust inhibitor my write up and pics should come up and you can see the difference

Thanks for the response. I'm located in MA and so is the JK. What would you recommend using on the rust?

Re: Used 2013 JK Wrangler - Need Opinions on Rust and Condition

SEM makes a product called Rust Shield. It's a rust converter and paint in one. Lightly wire brush the loose scaley rust. (Don't get all the rust off, just the stuff that's just barely hanging on) Use a pre cleaner. Then paint it with the Rust Shield. It cuts the oxygen off from the ferric oxide so that it can no longer spread.

I painted an old rusty dump truck bed with it and that stuff lasted forever. Even hauling crushed stone didn't wipe it out. The rust didn't come back until some of the paint was damaged back to bare metal. It's color is black.
