Unfortunately they will just shrug off your comments.
The majority of owners like their cars detailed before they take ownership.

I made sure I asked several times that my car not be detailed and front license plate not be drilled into my front bumper when it arrives. My salesperson said in the 10 years she'd been selling cars I was the first person to make those requests.

I'm the same way. I don't want anyone doing any stupid crap to my brand new vehicle. Keep your tacky looking tire dressing away. Keep your stupid dealership decal off of my paint. Don't let some high school kid "detail" my jeep.

I wish we could just buy straight from the manufacturers and cut the dealers out.

And yet there are several states that are keeping Tesla from doing this very thing...

I understand how deflating any minor issue during PDI can be, though all I see here is some sloppy detailing that can be fixed with a wash, what sounds like a bird bomb, and a broken switch.

I posted this in the SRT section, but have a look at these PDI horror stories on 3 $70k SRT's over the course of weeks.

Just for my own knowledge....why would someone not want the vehicle detailed by the dealer before picking it up?

Because typically the "detailer" is relatively unskilled, unconcerned, and ill equipped.

Your factory fresh paint will be subjected to millions and millions of swirl scratches from poor wash technique and dirty equipment rubbing grit into your paint. Your clear coat will be stained from the excessive tire shine goop as it slings off your tires on your first drive. Your "damp rag only" leather dash will have protestant put on it permanently changing the OEM matte look, as they haphazardly use spray bottles in the interior, your headliner and other fabric materials are contaminated with a fine mist of whatever crap they're spraying, etc, etc.

Pre Delivery Inspection - PDI.

Also, not all dealers charge that. I've had "documentation" charges of like $65 and state inspection fee but that's it from the dealer...and if I didn't agree to that up front in writing then I'm not paying for some unwanted "prep".
