Unhappy Very sad, 2016 JKU broken before I got to pick it up!

Ordered my 2016 JKU Willys on August 1st. It just arrived at the dealer yesterday, September 21st. Was scheduled to pick up up today but I get a phone call this morning that during PDI they discover the windshield wipers won't turn off. Dealer says the wipers sweep every 30 seconds or so even with the switch off.

How the hell did that make it through the factory inspection?! I hope this Jeep doesn't prove to be full of electrical nightmares.

I'll update if the dealer resolves the issue. Understandably they won't let me buy the Jeep until they fix the problem. I've been saving ten years to buy this Jeep and it's f**king broken before I can even drive it.

I am missing my old Jeeps; CJ2a, CJ8 Scrambler, J10.

Things like this happen all the time, don't think of it as you getting a lemon or future Jeeps having problems. I work Finance for a car manufacturer, and I can tell you this is indicative of nothing. You would be surprised of the sheer number of vehicle repairs that happen with vehicles before they see the light of day.

Really, nothing to freak out about.

Re: Very sad, 2016 JKU broken before I got to pick it up!

Thanks for the encouragement. Hopefully everything will be resolved.

Update:

Went to the dealership this afternoon to at least look at my future Jeep. Discovered more frustration:
I asked for no wash no detail PDI. Sales manager said they had to wash to inspect paint for blemishes but they would save all the stickers they pulled off. I said ok. That was a mistake.
Today I see that the Jeep was washed poorly and tire dressing is now all over it. Tires are practically dripping and its in the fender wells, greasy hand print on the fender, inside the back door, on the rock rails, everywhere. And the stickers are all gone except the window sticker.

Also found a paint? drip? of some sort on the inside top of the rear hardtop. It wipes off somewhat with your finger and is powdery. Color looks like Tank green(the Jeep is Billet silver). The main spot is about three inches in diameter with splatter radiating out a couple more inches. How the hell did that get there? Are the tops upside down in the factory?

All in all I'm super disappointed right now.

Not sure to say except ... Sometimes I think things in nature need to balance. Therefore as this jeep will be destined to be the most loved and reliable truck you ever own, mother nature had to throw an early curve ball at it to balance things out a bit.

I know it is hard but point everything out, let them fix it, get over it and post some photos with mud splatttered all over it.

You're mad cause they detailed your Jeep? What are you going to do, park that thing in the garage and sit in a lawn chair and look at it every day? Dude, it's a Jeep. With 500 miles on mine I christened it by dunking it into a pond. So much mud I couldn't see out the windshield. Then I took it home, washed it, and drove it daily after that. You gotta' break it in.

It could be for the better. Your Wrangler has been pre-disastered.

Yep. I am.

I'm the last person that needs to be told it's a Jeep. I've owned Jeeps my entire life. I realize they get dirty. I also take vehicle detailing very seriously.

This quite possibly will be the only new vehicle I get to purchase in my life. I wanted a chance to do things my way from the start, not fixing previous owner's mistakes like I've had to do on all my other Jeeps.

So now i'll be spending my first weekend with this Jeep removing tire dressing. Great.

Basically I have learned another lesson. Make sure you explain how you want everything to be before any action takes place. I should have stuck to my guns about the no wash no detail PDI. My mistake. Just sharing so others will know.

Did u take possession of then jeep? If not then refuse it and reorder another one, when I bought my 2014 before j left the lot the check engine came on I said to my self it might be just a glitch then it was down hill from there

At the end I damaged the engine trying to help a guy out off roading and I ended up trading it for my 2015 hardrock 0 problems

Re: Very sad, 2016 JKU broken before I got to pick it up!

Update: I bought the Jeep yesterday!

After much deliberation I decided that completing the purchase was the right thing to do.
The wiper switch was replaced with a new one and all is well there. The dirty spot on the inside of the hard top was cleaned with a soft towel and water. The tire dressing is irritating but I will clean it off this weekend when I give the Jeep a proper detailing.

In the end I made it well known to the folks at the dealer that in the future when a vehicle is special ordered it should not be detailed without the customers permission. Doesn't help me but maybe it will keep someone else from being disappointed.

Thanks for the replies to my thread, you all helped me make my decision. Now I'm looking forward to getting out and exploring in my new Jeep!

Cheers
