Walk me through the new jeep ordering process please

About to order my very first new jeep next week if all goes well. I bought new cars before but they were on the lot, I never special ordered one.

Can someone briefly summarize what I should expect when I order? I suspect it might go something like this?

1) Present dealer with an online build sheet when the jeeps model and options desired.
2) Dealer works up an agreed upon price.
3) I give them a $500 deposit.
4) Days or weeks pass before I get a VON.
5) A VIN will be assigned sometime after VON.
6) I painfully wait until jeep arrives at dealer.
7) Dealer calls, vehicle is ready for pickup. I call in sick to work and visit dealer to complete financing, sign papers and happily drive new jeep home.

9) After trying to convince yourself you can wait without MOTS you break down and become a level 3+ member.

Fixed it for you

I would agree with that Tink, I did use Tread Lightly for mine, but some people state they can get just as good of a deal without it.

Re: Walk me through the new jeep ordering process please

I went to 4 local dealer and asked for pricing if I was to order a jeep that day. All were given the same build which had a MSRP of $48,455. Invoice was $45,511. The second dealer offered it to me for $44,000 with zero negotiations so far. No tread lightly or anything. I was going to re-visit them next week and inquire again. This time I will be ready to order and plan to counter-offer.

Thanks for the advise so far.

Outstanding!! That could be a keeper right there. What kind of rep do they have?? Are they likely to try to change the deal once the Jeep is on their lot?

They put the $44,000 in writing at the time I visited. I couldn't order because I'm waiting on Mojave Sand to order Jan 12th.

The dealer has a good rep and is mod friendly. They sell new Jeeps with non-mopar lift kits and warranty. They used to host a Jeep cookout every year with free food, jeep games and prizes till the bottom fell out of the car market in 2008. Cut-backs made them stop that expense.

Not really. By my math that's about 4% under invoice. If you're happy with it and with the dealer ( from yor comments they sound excellent), go for it. Check out what they can do for financing and then shop around and see what the bast deal you can get on that. To me it sounds like you're on a good track, go for it.

Wish you the best of experiences getting your JK.

Re: Walk me through the new jeep ordering process please

So I don't need to worry about financing paperwork signatures till vehicle delivery and pickup at dealer?

I was thinking of getting loan pre-qualified the day before ordering (USAA 2.5%) but am afraid that the long wait time of 8 weeks for a special order jeep the pre-qualifying will expire and I'll have to apply again?

My credit score is 805 and I can put $10k down.

Wait on securing financing... the dealer or Jeep will be able to tell you the status of your Jeep through production - and when it ships. They should give you a 10 day window for delivery.

At that point I would shop loans.. but you don't want too many inquiries..

I went to my credit union and secured a pre-approved loan at 2.5% ..

The dealer beat that with US Bank at 1.64%...

Tell the dealer you have a loan with a ridiculous low interest rate. When they ask, just say you can't recall the exact percentage but its somewhere around 1.5%...

Let the finance director scramble to meet or beat that..

Remember, they have access to all the interest rates from the local banks and credit unions.. so you need to be elusive when you convey the interest rate you have in your hip pocket.

The finance guys are sharp.. you need to outsmart them.

Is getting pre-approval for a loan a hard pull on credit report? I thought only a real financing loan required a hard pull.
