What would you like in a Jeep Soft Top?

I know in Colorado many people prefer the hard top due to the *cough* winters (joke)...
However the point of the Jeep Wrangler is to be able to throw the top back and be exposed to the sun. However as weather changes rapidly here (CO) it's always smart to be able to cover up quickly.

So I would like to know what are the positives and negatives of current soft tops available?

What would you as a Wrangler owner like to have that isn't offered?

Re: What would you like in a Jeep Soft Top?

In my opinion, the Bestop Trek Top NX is about as good as it gets. I'd imagine the Super Top NX is just as good.

Factory functionality, Sunrider feature, removable side and rear window panels, bowless installation, durable non-fading material, fits snug to reduce flapping/ballooning, and easy to install/remove when necessary. The only drawback to it is the built-in header bar that does not detach from the material. Makes it fairly difficult if you're out and about and want to remove to entire top because the header bar is bulky and doesn't fit very well in the cargo area of the Jeep.

I would like it to be easier to remove. The window zippers are a PITA once they get older..

Try adding some zipper pulls. Paracord and cobra knots work well.

A rear window that can be rolled up out of the way. I do it now with a modified Velcro strap and hook... but it scratches it up and still hangs down to far into the visibility in the rear view mirror.

Better zipper setup. The back window is brutal when it has a grain of dust in it. Have to do something to get those rounded corners out of the back window.

The TrekTopNX looks like it might have that solved, just put one on my TJ.

The fabric is pretty hard to deal with up here in the Great White North when December roles around.

That being said, I have had the dual top option on my Rubi since day one (2009) and have generally happy, the sunrider option is awesome. The hardtop can be a pain to store, but that is just one of the pains of owning a jeep.

Re: What would you like in a Jeep Soft Top?

Here's an idea ...some may like and some may not! Why couldn't they design the back tailgate too have a glass window that retracts into the tailgate ? I have often thought about this and remembered that some vehicles with soft tops have this feature so they could do away with the back plastic non usable window once it is destroyed from 1 year of use. and for that matter why couldn't they design all the windows to work in that way....I know the rear quarter windows would be an odd shape given the wheel wells are large and rear 1/4 is short but it would still be doable with modification...removing the plastic all together, it would need a trim panel and a firmer canopy so that the seals would sit firmly on the glass . It could be done and with one button lower the glass and throw back the top. Not saying to incorporate electrics into the whole top just add glass that lowers into the body and the top could stay manual. Yes I know the dimensions are different concerning glass and body but it could be done.
Just my two cents ....the plastic is the weakest part of the vehicle and could be eliminated if any thought went into it, just have a the nice new heavy duty premium top maybe even sturdier and do away with the hardtop all together.
