What year/model JKU to buy to build?

So it seems yet again PCP isn't going to happen, so my wife's dream for years and years may not happen unless I get something used and build it up/repaint it. I know there was a big engine power bump between... '12 and '13 I believe it was, and I'm sure there's little changes that may influence things here and there, so what year would people buy if they were willing to go as far as put in new axles, a locker, etc. i.e. we'd have bought a Hard Rock Rubicon in PCP the day ordering opened if it ever happened, so I want to build at least that capable of a jeep.

Another thought- just get a 2015 HRR Unlimited in a color that "works" with a purple (since there's so much body color seen inside) and get a wrap?

I was willing to go up to the $45k range of a brand new HRR, but I'm not sure how far above that I'd go to get something different and make it what we want it to be.

I know this is a pretty open ended line of questioning, so perhaps it'd be better approached as "what year(s) to avoid and why?"...

Buy a 2015 with what you want on it and the model you want. Order it in White. White is a great base coat for a color like purple. Problem solved. New Jeep, full warranty, you are going to pay a ton for any Wrangler 4 years old or less. Buy a new one.

The Hard Rock only comes with a black interior. So, I would think that getting the black exterior paint from the factory, would leave you with the "so much body color seen inside" as black matching the interior color, if no longer the exterior color.
Current Jeep:
2014 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon X
Previous Jeeps:
1987 Wrangler Laredo
1999 Cherokee Limited (Up Country,Trailer Tow)
