14 vs 12/13 headlights/ front end

Are the 14 and 12/13 headlights the same shape? I am wondering because.....

I absolutely HATE the lights on the 14 but I really could use the extra towing capacity.

I wonder if it is possible to change the 14 lights out for 12/13 style. Hell, I would Love to change the whole front end because I might be the only one that loves the 12/13 model and Hate the 14 front end.

Maybe its because the 14 looks like it has a silly grin. I think it looks goofy as hell in all colors but black. The headlights though....Man!!! I seriously dislike them. In the photos below, one looks like a pissed off eagle and the other looks like a smiling alien or something(Yuck).

I have tried to make myself like them but I just cannot seem to force myself to.

Either way, what do you guys/gals think? Would it be possible to switch the two front ends or maybe just the headlights?

Sorry if it seemed like I was ripping you 14 owners beasts. They are awesome but a man feels what he feels, right.

Forget the SRT and just get one of these ^^^^
Then you'll have nice headlights and good towing capacity.

Re: 14 vs 12/13 headlights/ front end

a 2011 nonSRT owner did a test fit of a 2014 headlight. the 2014 headlight is a different shape and size. You would have to build custom harness for the headlamps. Just buy a 12 or 13 imho.

Yeah...im leaning towards the 13 but I have an RV and the 14 could tow it. That is the biggest reason why I am torn. Im replacing all the audio equipment as soon as I get it so I dont care about the new head unit and duh...8 speed is awesome, but geez, I really would love the higher tow capacity.

You can't replace the Head Unit as it's integrated into the computer system of the Jeep.

Re: 14 vs 12/13 headlights/ front end

IMO the headlights on the 14 are much sleeker, modern, and nicer than 12/13 models.

I am trying to agree with you but its one of those things. There is just something that I do not like about the front of the 14. Maybe it is just the shape of the grill. I dont know. I just dont like the design. The 06 and 12 models were sinister to me. The 14 looks weird.

I felt the same way about certain chrysler 300 models back in the day. They looked like a beaver to me...lol

I am an artist. I was that kid that could see crazy objects and faces in the clouds and stuff. I point it out to the other kids and they are like "oh yeah!".My imagination has always been kind of wild. I dont do drugs or anything....I know you are thinking it! Lol!

But every car has a "face". Some look mean and angry, some look goofy like a vw beetle. It is just something about the 14 that is not evil like I prefer.

My jeep will have an evil theme going on.

Hoping to pick mine up in the next couple weeks but gotta hook the wife up first with a new ride.

Yeah I know. I would do a bit one install maintaining the factory HU in this case. No big deal.

I am mainly replacing all speakers and sub. Here is what I have waiting in the basement.

Sub- JL 13w7 ported
Amps-2- jl 300/2 and 1-1000/1 (probable change for new HD amps)
components- Boston acoustics Z6 (I have 7 woofers and 5 tweeters)

I have an alpine IVAD310 and pxah 701 processor but they are outdated now.

The sub will go in the spare tire well but I will need to cut a small hole in the floor to allow for clearance. I will save the part that is cut out so I can later weld it back in. there is plenty of space under the floor behind the cover. I will make a fiberglass or carbon fiber tub for magnet clearance and seal it all up. I need about 4 inches to keep the factory floor cover in place.

I know some of you just cringed.....Dont worry, I am experienced at this and it will be like surgery and not like hacking a tree.

I may end up going with 2- 12w6v3 subs instead but I already have the 13w7 and prefer the sound of it.

most people...even the media commented on how "evil and sinister" the 14 looks. I guess its the eye of the beholder huh? LOL

Yes hahaha you are right. I tried and tried since the 2014 version came out to like that front end but I think it boils down to the curve underneath the headlights. I just really don't like it at all and I think the 2012 looks more sophisticated. I I would definitely like to convince myself that the 14 Grill and front-end area looks better I just don't like it. The 8-speed transmission and the extra towing capacity is what I am trying to decide now if it is worth me driving a beast that I don't really like completely. I just don't want that grill 2 eat at me since I plan to get the Jeep and then keep it for a long time. Now that I don't really drive my vehicles daily since I have a company vehicle, I can actually plan to keep the vehicle long term. I should probably only put between 5000 and eight thousand miles on it for years and that's giving it a little.
