Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

So is there any chance pricing will be close the the prelim estimates? Otherwise I will most likely be cancelling my order too

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

So...here in lies the question.
If Msrp is 55 k fully loaded, does it really change your opinions?
To me, that is a fair price for everything you get. And for the record, I don't think anyone on here has ever paid Msrp. So stop all the whining.

yes, I'm not getting fully loaded so it would be a bit less. I would still buy if it turns out as you suggest. But if a $55k base is it, I am definitely out

Reasons for the 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

Still catching up on the various comments but wanted to post some rationale behind the MSRP for the 2012 Jeep GC SRT8. I work with Chrysler Group PR and got in touch with our Jeep and SRT people to try to flush out the reasoning behind the pricing.

The short version is that the 2012 GC SRT8 has a whole lot of performance, technology and other features for the starting $54,470. We're comparing it to other SUVs that don't match the performance but cost a lot more.

Examples include the 2011 Land Rover Sport-Supercharted with an MSRP (excluding destination) of $74,195; 2011 BMW X5 M with an MSRP of $85,700; 2011 Mercedes Benz 63 AMG with MSRP of $92,590.

For the standard features, you've probably seen some of the reviews or news release info, but let me just list some of them below:
  • Our Selec-Track adaptive damping suspension
  • LED head lamps
  • Parkveiw rear back up camera
  • Carbon fiber interior accents
  • Media Center 730N with standard navigation
  • SRT leather Steering wheel with Paddle shifters
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Rear ELSD
  • Side air bags
  • Keyless Enter N' Go
  • Auto ATC
  • Memory seats
  • SRT Performance Pages

Some of the reviews have pointed to its high-end aspects:

"At the end of the day it's not just stomping the gas that makes the new 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 special. Its interior is a combination of leather and suede… meaty steering wheel…. but its MSRP, at $54,470, is nearly $32,000 south of the X5 M and about $52,000 less costly than the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. And that counts for something." (From http://www.insideline.com/jeep/grand-cherokee-srt-8/2012/2012-jeep-grand-cherokee-srt8-first-drive.html)

I don't mean to post here with any PR speak, but the above is the core rationale for the pricing on the new Grand Cherokee SRT8. Yes, it is more than you'd expect with a Jeep, but it's not a typical Jeep. It's not one you'd go off-roading on, but would definitely driving it.

For questions, I'll try to get answers, but they may not be until Monday.

So you are going on record saying that the $55,295 IS the base price, not price as tested?

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

Mike, thanks for following up. I was the one who contacted you guys via Twitter. You have a bunch of stellar folks working in the PR and SRT divisions, trust us (from years of experience dealing with them including their tremendous involvement with many of these SRT-related forums to date)!! This is GOOD CONTEXT thanks for sharing!!

I realize you are kind of confirming the MSRP speculation however I would still guess Chrysler hasn't officially published the numbers, so perhaps it could still be less than what you suggest, but it doesn't sound like it will be given the position of the company. Also the folks on Twitter seemed to indicate the answer is that it's a great vehicle and worth it (not the price is a typo which is what all of us were hoping for). Some magazines also said $55K as tested (est) indicating a much lower MSRP but either way we're not getting a firm answer (yet/until Monday I suppose?)...

I'm assuming there will be an onslaught of more comments now but at least we have a lot more to go on than we did before. We appreciate your openness and insight, as we comprise a large percentage of your SRT enthusiasts I'm sure.

I will still hold out for more official pricing on Monday (in the ordering system) and also want to know what INVOICE pricing will be before making my final decision to get or not get the new WK8.

I must say though, I find myself jealous now watching these videos again because I'm already thinking I might have to pass now (ex: ) - I really want this Jeep, and trust me, I make $200K a year and can afford it anyways have the cash aside for this including my trade, but it just doesn't feel right for those rumored MSRP prices..

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

I feel bad for the people who put down deposits, I sure hope you get your money back ok.
I have to say I think the SRT group has lost their way. I remember back in 2004 when I bought my first new car and it was a SRT-4. It was probably one of the rawest pocket rocket ever made. And it was a steal at 21,000. Now they think they are on the same level as BMW and porshe? Good luck with that.

Mike...first.....thanks for your post. My issue with the features listed is 90% of those came on the 2010 with a MSRP OF 49k. Those features don't add up to 10 k of cost. And meanwhile Chrysler is dropping the base price on the WK2. It just isn't adding up.
