You missed my point but also proved it VIPER is a brand known name for paying high price for that type of car JEEP is not

Yes, it was a V6 and didn't have any driving ride options other than sport mode but that doesn't change the suspension on the model I test drove. A friend of mine had a Volkswagon Toureg from a few years ago with air ride suspension and he could change it to different heights as well as stiff or soft suspension and it was a very nice riding SUV.

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

MikeD Chrysler - Thank you for your post, but quite frankly....how stupid do you and the jokers at Chrysler think we are? You talk about all the special things that have been added to this new GC SRT8, but the WK2 in general has been upgraded tremendously over the previous gen and the cost of the WK2 has DROPPED compared to the WK. With that being said, how do you expect the consumer to believe that this pricing is nothing but a slap in the face?

I WILL NOT BUY A $60K JEEP!!! I AM OFFENDED THAT CHRYSLER FEELS THAT THEIR BRAND CAN SUPPORT SUCH A LAUGHABLE COST FOR ANY VEHICLE IN IT'S LINEUP!!

Chrysler vehicles have historically been known for their piss poor quality, but folks like myself were willing to overlook these issues because we truly loved the product. Now, after confirming the outrageous MSRP for these, I can tell you this: 1.) you will lose a large number of your customer base, and 2.) you will NOT convert BMW/Land Rover/Mercedes loyalists because they are not willing to overlook poor quality.

Just another fleecing of America

EDIT - also, you mention how this is not your typical Jeep and one you wouldn't go offroading with. HELLOOO!!!!!! Neither was the 06-10 GC SRT, BUT it was LESS THAN the Overland model at the time?! Chrysler is OUT OF THEIR MIND with this price. Absolutely out to lunch!!

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

I would have to agree this price is high. This thing is going to start at almost 10K more than my Overland cost. For this price I would expect a nearly perfect vehicle and I doubt that will be the case. I would also expect the dealer service to match and I know that won't be the case. I am glad now that I went with the Overland because I would not be willing to pay any more than that cost. On the other hand Chrysler is only looking to sell 1500 to 2000 of these a year I believe from what I read so that probably won't be a problem.

It's a Porsche and for those that are brand loyal before you get bent out of shape I offer you to go ride in one for a week or the new X5 then make a statement. I'm not saying the SRT Jeep is not comparable in features and comforts but once you ride in both you will see the difference. I also echo the sentiments of another poster in reference to the experience after the sell like bringing the vehicle in for service. Were treated like royalty at Porsche, given comparable rentals, food vouchers, preferred parking at various locations. The waiting rooms are luxurious and the shop area is spotless on the flip side you take your 60K+ jeep in for service you will stand in line to get waited on, some service writer will stroll out to your car and throw in some paper footing if your lucky and since your waiting for whatever it is (yes wait Jeep/Chrysler do not offer loaners) you have the priveledge of sitting in some questionable waiting room with all sorts of fun characters with access to a vending machine.

Its post like this that make me believe that we still have reasonable thinking members here. People keep comparing the SRT with the BMW M5 and say the just because the Jeep is faster and cheaper, its better. No, your get a far better return for your money with the BMW then what you ever would with a Jeep. The moment I heard the price of the Jeep was the moment I thought of the Infiniti FX50, a SUV(or CUV?) that is 5K cheaper, but offers more for someone that is looking for a quick daily driver. Plus not too many people know about the FX50 so it could be thought of as a sleeper which is fun within its self .

I think "return on your money " is the wrong words to use. You'll lose double the money with those other brands vs the Jeep in depreciation. And further I don't think you get $40 k difference in features or quality between an X5m or cayenne turbo. There is no way.
I do like the new SRT8. I just like it less @ $60k than I did when it was a $50 k truck. And....like others, I ordered mineloaded for $41k fully loaded.

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

Thank you Chrysler for helping me decide on ordering my new vehicle. With that twilight zone pricing it's a no brainer going back to Audi.

I get treated like a king there and when I need a loaner it's always a new A4 or Q5. You will not get that same level from your average Chrysler dealer.

When I sold my 2007 GCSRT8 it took 6 months to sell it. I had 3000 miles on it and it wasn't even 2 years old. I paid 41000 for it and ended up having to give it away at 29000. Gas wasn't 4.00 dollars a gallon then either.

On the other hand I just sold my 2009 Q5 and it took weeks to sell it not months. I paid 47000 loaded and 2 plus years later sold it at 39000.

Barho -- Appreciate the comments and sentiment. Others have expressed the same about no one will pay for a $60,000 Jeep.

This has definitely raised the emotions of owners like you. I think all the brands have their legions and we're thankful for the support -- but I think Jeep fans/owners have a bit of extra passion. (I'm from the Toledo area so am also a bit biased for Jeep vehicles.)

I'll pass on sentiments like yours and others to Jim Morrison and others with SRT and Jeep. Not sure what it'll do but they will see it.

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

Two things. First, I agree with those who point out when you pay a luxury car price you expect luxury car treatment when you get your car serviced. As a Jeep and Lexus owner the difference is like going to a cafeteria or a quality steakhouse. Second, as I mentioned earlier, the real issue for us is the factory invoice not the MSRP. My dealer hinted that there may be a greater difference between the two because this is a specialty vehicle. Maybe he was wishful thinking, but I guess we will find out on Monday.
