Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

If the $55k base is correct, I feel that around 75% of the preorders will be cancelled. They are risking alienating their base who was most enthusiastic about this new product. These early adopters would then be the ones who sell future SRT8 vehicles through word of mouth advertising. With such a small quantity of vehicles being produced, you can't advertise in the mass market. The SRT8 group NEEDS enthusiastic early adopters to succeed. If they don't clear this up on Monday, they will absolutely lose the demographic they need most.

If anyone with influence at Jeep or in the SRT8 group is reading these forums: please reconsider the price on Monday.

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

guys....I know for a fact that JeepGarage.Org and this thread will be a main topic monday morning at SRT. But unless Im totally clueless about corporate pricing decision.....more goes into it than what we think....therefore I doubt its easily changed. Im pretty sure they did a market study and evaluation to arrive at these numbers. im also pretty sure they have a good idea what the general publics reaction will be. Maybe this is what they need to profit from these Jeeps?

However I also don't spend months claiming how much I like something and how I can wait to get one and then when the price gets released start calling it names like obnoxious. Who's been called out again?

PS. Look for one post saying I was getting one anytime soon. You won't find one.
Ha. It was an emotional comment because of the way learning the price affected me. I am guilty of everything you say.

Well they did just fine during 5 years of the first generation. I doubt that it cost much more to build than an Overland, proof being pricing for the 1st gen. The other 2012 SRT models had modest increases - less than $300 on the Challenger for example.

If the pricing holds firm, and I believe that it will, I think it's going to prove to be a big mistake, WHY alienate all of your existing customers, the very folks who would be trading in for the new model? For myself and many others, the enthusiasm has now been severely dampened/lost.

Scott - Do you think they can sell out the planned quantity at this elevated price? I don't! Prospective buyers will swap into a foreign premium brand or "downgrade" to an Overland JGC and save $12,000 or so.

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

Or even hang on to their existing Wk1 and throw in a 426, save yourself a hell of a lot of cash and enjoy being sucked back into your seats and possibly end up in the back seat. All my hopes for having the new SRT are going down the drain.

Thanks Milous for the great info, I'll stick around to hear the reaction when the prices are released and see how the "jury" deliberates and announces a verdict.

"Will the JEEP SRT team be found guilty or innocent of hiking up prices for no reason?" - Stay tuned for THE PEOPLES COURT (Srt enthusiasts only please)

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

its all opinions at this point....BUT yes...I think they will sell every one they build. I find it very sad that they have "alienated" as you guys have said....the first gen owners. BUT....BUT...according to some of the other Jeep sites....JeepUnlimited for one....they did the same with the 2011 non-SRT WK2's. JeepUnlimited doesnt even have a wk2 forum...and they are probably the LARGEST Jeep site on the net????? IMO...that has worked out pretty well for Jeep. I just think theres a NEW buyer out there for the Jeep...but really it does SUCK to lose a lot of the OLD SRT8 Jeep owners....even though they dont come here. Maybe the new guys will and we'll build a following just like the 1st gen Jeep SRT. They started from new before....right?

Supercharger + overland w quadralift sounds better and better. Or maybe a stage 6 Turbo.

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

I've been on a long trip and out of touch with developments on MSRP. Then I checked my daily bulletin from AutoWeek and there it was: A test drive of the 2012 GC SRT8 and an estimated base MSRP of $57,500. I flipped out. If I add my options, state tax and an extended warranty, I'm into the mid-$60's. This is at least $10,000 more than I had budgetted for. Will these prices hold up, and will this put more or less pressure on dealers to offer Affiliate Pricing?

That will certainly make a difference. I will hold my decision until I see what the real OTD price will be.

Based on thiat I may just wait for the replacement for the ML550 next year supposedly the same price as this years. Today can get a well optioned one for about 60k with a list of about 67k with no special discounts. Next year supposedly the 5.5 liter engline will be replaced with a new 4.6 twin turbo puts out 435 HP and between 443 and 515 fp of torque with a 7 speed tranny. It gets 20% better mileage than the 5.5l.

A well optioned Grand Cherokee or a well optioned Mercedes SUV for around the same price? Com'on Jeep.

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

Hell, Hyundai sold 1,400 Equus' ($60k+) in the first 6 months of 2011. It seems plausible that Jeep could move a paltry 1,500 SRT8's per year at their inflated price. I guess we'll see who has more clout at this price point.

That said, IMO, this is nothing more than a marketing gimmick. These Jeeps will be all over commercials and the car rags saying, hey, look a $60K Jeep that you actually want. It's unfortunate they abandoned the old formula of an affordable American made performance SUV. Too bad, with the departure of the TBSS and WK1 SRT8, a market gap exists.
Jeep, good luck playing with the German's. Hopefully there will be some Jeep faithful here when you come back.

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

One of the other vehicles I was (and now will be again if MSRP holds true) considering was/is the FX50 from Infiniti. I know some might say apples to oranges, ugly, not as strong a motor etc... but, it was also pointed right at the Porsche as its target. I think we would all agree that Infiniti is a more upscale company than Jeep. The final quote of the long term test by Edmunds is very telling "With most of our questions answered, a new one was raised: Considering the FX50's price, performance, looks, reliability, resale, comfort and feature content, why did the Porsche Cayenne overflow the halls at Porsche with deutsche marks while this is relegated to sales obscurity?"
I know some have talked about resale value as well. Another quote from the long term FX50 test: "Our long-term 2009 Infiniti FX50S started life wearing a sticker price of $62,285. By the time 13 months had passed and we'd racked up 29,252 miles, Edmunds' Private Party True Market Value (TMV®) was sitting at $46,907. While that's a reasonable 25 percent depreciation, $15,378 is a decent chunk of change. It's also a decent chunk of change to save if you happen to be in the market for a lightly used FX50."
Thoughts? What makes Jeep think they can jump into the status ranks if a status company like Infiniti can't? Maybe they think that posting a huge burn out with a Jeep SRT modified to be rear wheel drive with do the trick?
