Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

The projected production run for the 2012 model year is 2% of WK2's will be SRT's. That equates to roughly 3000 total units, 1500 built in 2011 and 1500 built in 2012 considering their production run is July - June. Will Jeep sell them all, probably since Jeep sells to dealer's not individuals. Will the dealers sell all they get, probably but IMHO they won't sell them all at a profit. They will be discounting at some point to clear inventory.

as for the price, after reflecting on it I think you can look at this from 2 angles. If the SRT was being built in a vacuum, like the Viper or Corvette then the $55k base price is actually pretty reasonable considering the competition. BUT, and it's a big BUT, the WK2 SRT is not being built in a vacuum, it's being built on an existing platform with an existing cost basis and as Milous and others have pointed out, the only way to rationalize the cost discrepancy is Jeep is adding a secondary sticker because they feel the market will bear it.

personally I feel the same way regarding BMW's M series, Mercedes AMG and Porsche's price jacking on the S and Turbo's compared to the base vehicles. I believe this is born out by the discrepancies in depreciation of these "halo" products which routinely out pace their base model brethren. Hell, I bought a 2 year old Cayenne Turbo in 2006 with all if 12000 miles on it for $65k, that's $40k less than the original owner paid 18 months earlier and I think this new SRT will suffer the same fate. The resale market has a way of leveling the field.

That said, IMO, this is nothing more than a marketing gimmick. These Jeeps will be all over commercials and the car rags saying, hey, look a $60K Jeep that you actually want. It's unfortunate they abandoned the old formula of an affordable American made performance SUV. Too bad, with the departure of the TBSS and WK1 SRT8, a market gap exists.

Jeep, good luck playing with the German's. Hopefully there will be some Jeep faithful here when you come back.
Well said.

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

The price does seem high, but honestly where I live there are so many first-gen SRT-8s that it did seem like they needed something to make them more rare and 'special'. It just would have been nice if Jeep added even more to the package rather than just jack up the price point. I'm definitely glad I went for the limited with the 5.7 instead. It seems like Chrysler is positioning the SRT-8 as a 'halo' model, meant to get you to go to the dealership to ooh and ahh at the SRT and then buy a standard WK2.

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

Jeep/Chrysler needs to realize that even though they may and possibly will sell their new WK2 SRT at the new marked up price to a certain niche market segment as an attempt to enter the, dare I say, Elite market segment for SUVs (MB,BMW,Porsche,LR), they will lose their original loyal customer base.

Jeep may not be struggling anymore after their entire conglomerate being acquired by Fiat, however, not that their loyal customers are struggling, but simply that they will stay loyal to the brand due to specific price points and such cost vs performance/quality ratio, those customers are still in somewhat of a slump compared to past. While they are still in a slump these customers are considering buying from Jeep the new SRT because they are loyal, however, not for a excessively marked up price just so Jeep can claim themselves as equals. Jeep/Chrysler wants us customers to "wipe out chins and walk away" (excuse my language) while they try to infiltrate that market segment.

My opinion is that even if they some what penetrate that segment of the luxury SUV owners, these owners after experiencing that the customer service quality of Jeep/Chrysler dealers is no where near that of MB,BMW,Porsche, and LR (no loaner cars, horrible waiting areas, waiting in lines, being told these problems are all "normal"), will realize their purchase of this vehicle was a horrible choice. This will cause those owners not to be loyal customers and to not come back to the Jeep brand again; Jeep needs to think in the long run, keeping loyal customers that are willing to buy for the 2nd (and much more for that for some customers) time their Wk's, that they are creating a long term relationship that can and will yield more profits and sales for their company.

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

I thought I would pass the following review along for those looking for alternatives.

Highlights: Seats 4 comfortably, 0-60mph 4.3 seconds, 1/4 mile 12.8 seconds, 402HP

They will be releasing a 4-matic version later this year. I sat in this the 4-matic version at the Detroit auto show and it is a beautiful car on the inside and out.

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

Relative to an Overland, it may seem expensive....BUT....I don't think it is for how it performs and compared to the competition. Read here: http://www.insideline.com/jeep/grand...rst-drive.html

Even the new Hybrid VW Touareg has an as tested price of $61K (C&D).

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

I don't get it, he states that he wants to create a "safe haven" and "we pay attention to the owners, because at the end of the day they make or break us", they're alienating the owners and potential enthusiasts/owners that were excited to order and now are contemplating cancelling their orders. Really sucks because he stated in another video "honestly in the last 3 or 4 years we have somewhat lost our focus in srt the products haven't been lost but the brand itself, so by putting them under one roof and one leader we can address the SRT customer directly, its a very different customer than the normal, the base vehicles, they come from a super enthusiastic background, more much affluent customer, and they need to be handled differently". Way to alienate those SRT customers.

Heres the link for the above video:

How is a 80-90K sedan an alternative for the SRT8?
If I wanted to spend that much money I would buy another fully loaded Cayenne S......

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

How in the HELL is the 2012 JEEP SRT8 entering the ELITE markets of the MB, Porsche, audi, bmw etc. etc. when ALL of their SUV's are $20K-$50K more than the 2012 Jeep SRT8? I totally iunderstand your arguments that moving into the $60k range is too much for Jeep...but saying theyve entered the ELITE markets of the luxury makers is just insane to me.

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - MSRP Pricing

My argument was merely pointed at the fact that Jeep seems to be poising itself to enter the elite market place of highly price SUVs, they are trying what they can to penetrate it, sorry if that wasn't clear but that's what I meant.
