Re: 2012 Jeep SRT8 sold out!

Biggest complaints on this forum about the original Jeep SRT was lack of tow hitch, poor fuel economy, and too firm ride for a luxury performance Jeep.

Those who purchased the originals realized that it was a huge bargain, with many paying over sticker price in the beginning.

The new Jeep, while not stopwatch faster, is far easier to drive fast, rides much smoother, and has adjustable suspension. It tows a bunch with a proper hitch system, is quieter, has better nav and sound system. It is much larger inside with far more rear seat comfort with real knee room and reclining rear seats.

While fuel economy is still not stellar, it is significantly better. The interior is of far better quality, and yes, the price went up to reflect all the improvements.

For those early adopters, rejoice in your good fortune of getting a more raw, viseral and less expensive hot rod jeep. The marketplace is more demanding of a more refined ride, and Jeep has hit it right with this new Grand Cherokee.

If all the units sell out, I don't think there will be any rebates. Do you?

Guess we're on different sides of the track these days Milous. I'm sorry to see that.
He, too (from what I've gathered), does not understand why the huge price increase. And that, in and of itself, should say a lot to those of us who have followed Milous since the SRT first came out in 06.

I think he agrees with many of us that it truly is a beautiful vehicle, but the difference in cost based on the other trim levels (when compared to the WK1 difference in trim levels) points to a fleecing of the consumer.

I think all of those have a customer assigned to them as well. Of course that doesn't mean that actual customer will take delivery of it (my previous vehicle was ordered for another person). It does mean that there is more buzz and interest in this model than in any of the previous years. I would doubt that any of these would be sitting on the lots for long.

While you may be correct about them not sitting for long (especially during the first year), I highly doubt those 4,000 units sold to dealers already all are assigned to a purchaser. Dealers buy vehicles through their allocation all the time. I am quite certain the majority of the 4,000 units said to be sold already to dealers are not assigned to a purchaser.

Re: 2012 Jeep SRT8 sold out!

A. Compared to the "regular" WK2 (Overland), the SRT8 is way too expensive (Milous is absolutely right on that one).

B. Compared to the (european) competition, the SRT8 is a bargain.

I'm going to try to ignore "A." and focus on "B." when I'll be in the market for a SRT8 in a few years. Won't be easy but looking at posted pictures of other members' rides while waiting might help..

I hope this thread doesn't turn into another WK1 vs WK2 battle......

It won't. Anyone that thinks the WK1 is a better vehicle than the WK2 is completely off their rocker.

There is NO doubt the WK2 version is a far superior vehicle IMO. The only problem is the price difference.

Milous, is it possible for you to confirm that what the article says is true, that "all of the 4,000 planned for production in 2012 have been sold to dealers."?

Regarding the article, I wonder if a dealer allocation is considered as a "sold" unit (therefore, being sold to the dealer)?

Two sales managers of 2 seperate dealers in my area were told by their respective dealer rep to NOT order for dealer stock, as it will NOT be filled.
It is surely possible they ignored that, but I would not say that the majority are just blank orders by dealers, when the reps were instructing them not to.

I agree with this philosophy 100%. It is not the price I expected or believe was the correct entry point of the new version.
However, when I start opening the comparison sheet against ALL other makes and models, there is some eye opening information about pricing on ALL levels, not just Chrysler!

Mustang GT per Fords Build your own website = $46K $46K for a Pony Car?
Explorer Limited per Fords site = $51K
Buick Enclave per Buicks site = $55K
Chevy Tahoe per Chevy's site = $61K
Jeep Cherokee SRT8 per Jeeps website = $63,025K

My guess is that they rounded up from 3,800 when they were speaking to the journalist and that the reference to all of the units being sold to dealers represents all of the orders they have from dealers (dealer stock units and sold units)
