Re: 2012 Jeep SRT8 sold out!

My dealership was allocated 5 SRT8's and they ordered 5. Each in D1 status except for mine (JS) - Only 2 people have put down deposits to reserve...mine and one other guy....leaving 3 available.

If all the units sell out, I don't think there will be any rebates. Do you?

Guess we're on different sides of the track these days Milous. I'm sorry to see that.
Naa, not changing the swing of my bat... I just felt that your comment about the WK1 SRT just being a "standard WK with some plastic added" while implying the WK2 is not was not a very accurate or fair comparison. Both the Wk1 SRT and WK2 SRT are based off of versions of the standard GC with the appropriate upgrades. They are essential "equal" in that regard.

I guess I just took exception as it sounded as if you were stating that the WK1 SRT was more or less just "thrown together" - when in fact millions and millions of $ were spent in the R&D, and there is an extensive list of upgrades that were done. The WK2 is no different, millions & millions were also spent for the upgrades.

The WK2 SRT engineers of course had a much improved all-new vehicle to begin with - independent suspension, the upgraded and larger interior, all the new technology etc.

There are quite a few things I like about the new SRT, it is truly a remarkable vehicle in many ways. And as an all-new generation, a long list of improvements is to be expected - just as there were with the WK over the WJ generation. I don't care for all the chrome nor do I like the wheels. I don't like the fact that the rear styling copied import vehicles instead of being unique.

The rear exhaust styling is lame, protruding out of a cheap-looking surround. The center exhaust should have never been eliminated. Engineering could have easily designed a cat-back system that would have allowed split pipes for the towing option and center pipes for non-tow equipped vehicles. Give me the much better and bad-ass WK1 exterior styling with the Wk2 interior at a fair price and I'd be a happy camper

It was expected that there would be a small price increase for the new SRT, but no one really could have predicted how sizable it ended up to be. Like so many others out there, I felt and still feel that SRT could have been a little more reasonable on the pricing. No one will ever convince me otherwise that only a small amount of the increase was needed to cover the additional costs (Brembo upgrade/hood). The rest is gravy, a LOT of gravy.

Had the WK2 offered the new 8.4" nav, a 6 or 8-sp transmission and a few more tenth's in the quarter mile, I think you would have seen a lot less complaining about the price. I also think of would have been smarter for SRT to have implemented gradual price increases spread across a few model years rather than throwing out such a large one all at once. As it is, you are going to have the typical increases that are implemented during each model year. Trust me, it won't be very long before you see the Jeep SRT breaking the $70,000 price barrier. For some it will be worth it, for others it will not be.

Definitely a few surprises out there, but I think everyone is comparing the price of the Jeep to the other "similar" SRT models which are all in the 40's. SRT would have never gotten away with large increases on the other vehicles as they are already priced above some of the competition. For the Jeep they had a lot of "headroom" in the marketplace, which they no doubt really took advantage of.

I agree and think everyone on any of the Jeep forums agree. I know I was shocked to see the new display in a standard Charger (rental car) and not see it in the Top of the line Chrysler product.

I had also said the same thing, adding that if they kept the weight down, which would have helped performance #s and times, with a small price increase, all would be accepting.

So have you heard any updates of the "track" version, which might address some of these issues?
Maybe it will take out some of the high tech, drop weight, and in turn drop some costs?

Re: 2012 Jeep SRT8 sold out!

I'm with Milous all the way on this one. My idea of "what if" would be a factory installed 6.4 in the WK. That could probably do 12.5 easily and be the baddest SUV bar none. In fact, I think I'll do that one day......

I don't believe they have put the larger display in the Challenger SRT8 either. I saw it briefly during the SRT Tour, I was more focused on the GC, so I payed way more attention to it, but, I don't believe it is in the Challenger either.

Even the 300 SRT8 on the Chrysler website, built with the pano sunroof and the 19 speaker sound system is $54,280, yes still 9k difference but that seems more than previous years, although I don't know the 2010's MSRP.

300C SRT fully loaded in 2010 was around $48K
GC SRT fully loaded in 2010 was around $50K

Ecveryone agrees that all the SRT vehicles went up in price. But the Jeep went up FAR more.

Re: 2012 Jeep SRT8 sold out!

I agree with all that the price has went up significantly but 7k more than the 300 SRT isn't that much more to ask when you consider your getting a SUV capable of towing, more storage space, all wheel drive and ability to drive year round rather than having to garage it for the winter. Bargain in my book, although higher priced than the 2010 GC SRT, still the best bargain on the block when considering performance SUVs.

Re: 2012 Jeep SRT8 sold out!

Just talked to my dealer. He has a couple of 'sold' orders that are in the system and is not sure he'll get any of the ones he ordered for stock.
