Re: 2012 or 2013 SRT8???

I'm waiting for the 2013 model for the reasons already discussed. The 8-speed transmission (fingers crossed) is my biggest reason for waiting; even though the 5-speed is "old reliable", the 8-speed is what SHOULD be in this Jeep to bring it on par with it's competitors as well as up the fuel efficiency. Different (metallic) colors would be a plus.

You won't ever see the 8 speed in the SRT from what we've been told by those who would know..

One cannot accurately define "problems" by the "total number" of problems, as there are problems that are far more serious and more difficult to solve. I'd rather have a Jeep with 5 problems that were solved by a simple Flash than a Toyota with one problem that takes them years to resolve (like the ongoing exhaust issue on the last gen of the POS 4Runner).

And you would on average, in the real world, visit the repair shop no less or no more than if you owned the Jeep.

Back in '06 when I bought my first Jeep SRT a neighbor bought a "reliable" Lexus IS250. His stack of warranty repair paperwork is probably 6" high, more than 30 trips to the dealer in the past 5 years or so. Constant electrical and other issues. While the Lexus service dept treats him like a king, he is still constantly inconvenienced as the dealer is a 40 min drive away. In the same 5 years my Jeep SRT's have been in the shop a couple of times, for extremely minor issues.

Had I been dumb enough to have made by purchase decision based on Consumer Reports or other "reliability" ratings I would probably be driving a Lexus and dealing with countless issues. Instead, I chose the "unreliable, not recommended" Jeep brand and couldn't be happier. Realistically, it's all a spin of the dice NO MATTER which brand you buy. The real world reliability difference between "higher rated" vehicles and "lower rated" vehicles is really not all that much.

Not really a new driveline though. The 6.4L has been out on the Challenger since late last year without any issues worth mentioning. The transmission has been around for many many years. Rear axle has had a great reliability record in the 2011 Grand Cherokee.

Really? Are there any links that support that? Why wouldn't they put it in? It can handle the power and will get better fuel economy... it seems like a no brainer to me.

Seriously... I would buy the 2012 if I knew FOR SURE that the 8-speed is out for future models.

Re: 2012 or 2013 SRT8???

Guys, get your SRT8 right here and now this year. I don't think I can take 2 more years (until 2013) of your incessant whining and complaining that the WK8 is not good enough. If it isn't, join the Ford forums and get yourself a Ford escape SVT or something..

Milous has stated it over and over throughout the forum.

Hmmm... I don't doubt what you're saying, but I can't seem to find any posts from Milous that say that. Do you have any links that could help? Thanks

Twasn't me, at least not that I am aware of...

Back in February I posted:

"Don't know yet, supposedly they are going to start out by putting the 8-spd in V6 models but no indication whether or not it is slated for future SRT models."

Last month I posted:

"WK2 V6 is scheduled to get the 8-spd for the 2013 model year. At this time I don't have any info on the 8-sp for the Hemi."

I'll have some better intel down the road when decisions are more finalized on future SRT models.

Re: 2012 or 2013 SRT8???

What I don't understand is how the V-6 and SRT8 use the same trans (W5A580) while the standard HEMI uses a different trans altogether (545RFE). The internals have to be much beefier for the SRT8, wouldn't they change the part number? With the amount of torque the SRT8 is putting out just off idle I can't believe they are the same. Here is link for Dyno graph:

Thanks for the clarification Milous Please let us know when you find out one way or the other. I'm going to place my order right after I find out the 8-speed is FOR SURE out OR as soon as they put it in. Until then, I wait... (sigh).

More than likely the ML63 probably uses the same transmission. So it would be a good fit for the SRT.

Re: 2012 or 2013 SRT8???

No ML63 uses a 7 sp trans. 5 sp doesn't bother me too much in SRT8 with its fat torque curve. My concern is why its used in the V-6 but not the 5.7 V-8 and if its strengthened at all for SRT8 duty.
