Re: 2012 or 2013 SRT8???

As far as I am concerned the 2012 SRT or the prior editions are amazing as they are. I mean for around 50k or less you have a really strong performance vehicle that can also carry a fair amount of stuff around.
If I weren't 6'5" I would have bought the prior edition and still be happy with it. Unfortunately I sometimes have four people in the car and, in the earlier model, the person in back of me would have been eating their knees.
So, five speed, eight speed, ninety-six speed or whatever, I am cool with the car the way it is.

If My primary concern was fuel economy I would be looking at a v-6 powered overland. Jeep has given us choices and my choice is the srt-8

Re: 2012 or 2013 SRT8???

Gee some of you blokes are close minded.

If an incremental improvement could be made to the SRT's fuel economy by using a new gen 8 speed box, then why whinge about it?
I'd bet the farm that performce would improve as well, it seldom goes backwards, the engineers won't allow that.

I'm seeing a lot of you swinging your obviously massive set of nuts around spruking how "I don't need need no fuel economy, I'm got so much cash that I just don't care..... let the poor people drive the ecenomical V6 versions.... for I.... EYE am king of the road!!!!!!!" (thats how I see a lot of the posts here reading between the lines).

Dude, all I am saying is that the SRT is great now. If it can be improved, fantastic. If you drive a lot of miles per year than maybe it makes sense to wait. But realize that the SRT is still going to use 91 not el cheapo octane regardless of the tranny vs. the 6.

Re: 2012 or 2013 SRT8???

Understood. I'm glad I only cover about 8,000 miles a year these days, so although I seem to be forever filling up (mainly due to WK1's far too small of a tank), fuel cost isn't really a defining factor for me.

But if it can be improved, with a likely corresponding improvement in performance and shift quality, then I'm all ears!

Perhaps that is the bad side of the internet. I didn't want to imply that an improved fuel economy would not be welcome. I was excited enough about what the 2012 SRT-8 had to offer that I ordered one. I was time for a new ride so I chose among what jeep had to offer right now. Based on what I have seen and read I think it is the right choice for me.

I think these guys who are so against the 8 speed tranny, need to rethink their position on technology and what ADVANCEMENT is.
You don't hear any complaints about the increased horsepower with less fuel.
My point is that it seems that there's a few more car "experts" jumping into the 8 speed tranny "Craziness":

I hope not - and if there are, I need to contact Jeep as soon as possible!

As the old saying goes, "good things come to those that wait". But you have to jump aboard at some point or you will miss out on all the fun.

"Don't bet the farm on it" (or the chicken coop).

^^^ See reply to pantheman75.
Message received loud and clear Milous; thank you VERY much for your time, help, and communication I'm going to wait it out until 2013 to see what happens.

I know more than I can say right now, but there are some very exciting features planned for the WK2 SRT8 generation. If you stay tuned to the right channel, you'll know well in advance and can plan your future purchase accordingly .
