So around the spring time frame for new 2013 model changes/enhancements?

I always wondered why they never even eaked out a 10-15 hp gain in successive model years for the 6.1...even with minor makeovers, refreshes and updates it seems like since the focus of this vehicle is performance - you would see a tweek here and there - even something that just moves the torque curve around for better use etc. (I mean maybe even update the wheels . 4 year run with the same exact wheel package....HUH?

Anyway - I am not wading into the waters like I did on the 06 - the runaround was not worth the hassle. I loved it when I got it, but the dealer/allocation/hype is not worth it.

There will be plenty to be had in 2013 - and with Giles taking over the SRT8 group - hoping he really makes some solid improvements to the SRT8 lineup.

So Milous - what are we talking about...here? My order goes in next summer.

You don't hear any complaints about the increased horsepower with less fuel.
My point is that it seems that there's a few more car "experts" jumping into the 8 speed tranny "Craziness":
Chevy:
http://wot.motortrend.com/gm-invests...rks-76573.html
Chrysler:
http://green.autoblog.com/2010/06/10...-transmission/
BMW:
http://www.autoblog.com/2011/04/06/b...edicts-curves/
Ford:
http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2011/06...ng-system.html
I am not complaining about the 8 speeds. I really could care less if I have a 5 or an 8 as long as the 0-60 is there. Mercedes continues to use the 5 speed due to it's high torque capacity, nearly 800 lb-ft. Most of the 7 & 8 speeds are for light duty and can't handle the high torque of the 6.4 let alone people who customize.

8 speed is the hype now in another year it will be 10 speeds...who cares how many there are as long as you can move forward and reverse.

There will be very few changes on the 2013 Jeep SRT8. The 2014 will be the mid-cycle refresh with several new notable features and options.

I agree it could be a fad, but major $$ is going into the production, not research of these transmissions.
And the current stock tranny does not hold up to high HP or torque numbers. Ask Builder Bill how many transmissions he's seen blown up due to modest #s.

And as for being for light duty:
The Rolls Royce Ghost which weighs in at 5400 lbs has this exact transmission.
Quote:
The engine is a bored and stroked version of BMW's N74 6.0L twin-turbocharged (twin-scroll) V12, now displacing 6.6 litres, featuring BMW's VANOS variable valve timing, high-precision direct fuel injection, and valvetronic; and generates 563 bhp (420 kW) producing 780 newton metres (580 ft·lbf) torque,[8] with ZF 8-speed automatic transmission.[9] The engine allows the Ghost to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 4.7 seconds.
That ain't half bad for pretty heavy duty work loads.

They could suck, but when Builder Bill or any other Tranny shop sees them break, they'll make them stronger, just like they are doing now, I think they'll do just fine with the HP and Tq that most will never have.

Re: 2012 or 2013 SRT8???

I decided on a 2012 and placed my order last night! Dealer changed an order for one that was ordered for dealer stock to sold order with options I wanted. Don't know how this affects build priority. Have POC sheet with VON# but status is BG? Also Dealer agreed to affiliate pricing or if not accepted, 1% above invoice. Can't wait!!!

Re: 2012 or 2013 SRT8???

I haven't a clue if the SRT will get an 8 speed, but if it does I think it could add a welcomed increase in fuel economy. I have owned an 8 speed Lexus IS-F in the past and it wasn't all that bad. Gears 7 and 8 were both over drive gears. When I drove the car spiritedly I usually shifted myself with the paddles and never used the higher gears. In auto mode with the sport button pushed the 8 speed would downshift quickly and I didn't notice too much hunting around in normal driving. The benefit was I got a lot better gas mileage than I did in my E90 M3 with the 7 speed DCT transmission.

Milous just said we're getting the 8-speed in the mid-year refresh in 2014...

So you can wait 2-3 years or you can say forget the 8-speed, I want the 5-speed NOW!

Re: 2012 or 2013 SRT8???

It's funny reading all the posts with everyone wanting an 8 speed tranny. My wife traded in her 09' Audi A4 with 6MT for a 2011 A4 with 8 speed tiptronic. Her only complaint is the gas mileage!
