Thumbs down 2012 SRT8 Do I have to use Run Flat Tires?

Hey guys,

I have drove my SRT8 for a while and I'm not in love with the run flat tires because the stock ones are becoming ****ing noisy and I don't like the way the car making all of that noise at high speed.

Now, the dealer is pushing me to install run-flat nothing else, because the car will start having problems if I don't!

Is this true?

Do I really have to run the car with Run Flats tires this is my question?

No you dont but dont mix them and are you sure that noise is the tires. It might be the ECO coming on.

Re: 2012 SRT8 Do I have to use Run Flat Tires?

I am currently researching tires. There are a few non-runflat options, but 295/45 zr20s are not common. I'm about sold on Yokohamas at $180 per tire. The OEM Runflats run around $480 ($515 at dealer) per tire, which is a bit much for me.

Anyone have any suggestions or tire comments?

I dont think so!

I know when Eco kicks in how the noise is coming out of tye engine! The noise am hearing is a tired noise and it increases at high speed and low speed at less than 60mph.

I also can see the Eco poping up on tge dash screen! So i dont think eco will come up at speed 160mph!

You'll probably be even more unhappy if you switch to a tire other than the Pirelli in that size. That tire was pretty much designed for the Jeep with performance in mind.

If you have a spare, you don't need run flats. I have the Hankook Ventus ST 295/45/20 on my wk2 hemi and they look and ride amazing. $700 shipped from discounttiredirect.com, You can't go wrong with a price like that!!!

Re: 2012 SRT8 Do I have to use Run Flat Tires?

i have the stock tyres and changed them once since i got the car, since they wore out

SRT recommends them, if there is some kind of noice comming, you should check it out
it maybe that the tyres are not alligned properly.

can we have pix?

assuming this is the right size?

Vredestein has 275/40/20's

BLACK OPS Auto Works

Also 315/35/20's
BLACK OPS Auto Works

Great tires at a great price I'm sure someone who has these will chime in.
One of the best mods I personally have ever done was get rid of the Run Flats the noise and ride quality dramatically improve!! RUN FLATS ARE JUST LOUD you will see the difference when you change.

Re: 2012 SRT8 Do I have to use Run Flat Tires?

It could be stone get caught between the tire groove, and when the window is down you hear a rapid click sound as the tire rotate, that happened quite a bit with these wide tires,it happened in my sport car sometimes when I drive it,especially with the top down you hear the sound, and then I stop and plug some stone out of the tire, and I think those are 235/40 R 18, 255/35 R 18 on my MB cabriolet.

Those are too small for a WK2 by about 1.5" in diameter. Vreds do ride smooth though.
