Re: 2014/2015 - Do you have a noticeable jerk on 6-5 shifts + a clunk?

Engineer tested and drove the car extensively today as well as another locally that was in the shop for the same complaint.

I spoke with him on the phone for about a half hour. Basically the verdict is he believes this is currently a characteristic of the vehicle and present transmission software. He agreed it is poor and not correct, and said that there was a software update in the system scheduled for official release this month after it clears emissions compliance. He suggested I hold out until the software is released to at least see if the behavior improves. I am going to see...still planning on a buyback at this point.

Drove another 2015 today, same crappy downshifts and 6-5 jerk, no clunk I could detect but I only was able to get the tranny up to about 140F in the 20 minutes I drove it.

Re: 2014/2015 - Do you have a noticeable jerk on 6-5 shifts + a clunk?

Your test drive doesn't give me hope, however the software update sounds promising. I just don't understand why the 15's are so much different than the 14's. Most of the 14's seem to be performing fine. Can anybody confirm that the ZF's in the 15's are really made by Chrysler now? My understanding was that the ZF's in the V6's were Chrysler built, but all V8'and ecodiesel's still got the German sourced ZF's.

Exactly!! I can't believe that they would let it go like this.
Maybe they're hoping most won't complain? But, for 70K, there should be no major issues.

Man, I hope that the new software update does the trick!
That would be great news for all. Then, Chrysler can just put that new update into the brand new builds and not have any issues like this again.
Good luck!

Re: 2014/2015 - Do you have a noticeable jerk on 6-5 shifts + a clunk?

I have a 14 that was ordered Feb '14 and received April 17. Had the 6-5 clunk since day one pretty much. It is not all the time, but when it does its a 6-5 clunk, and a 5-4 jerk. It's quite embarrassing when to explain when you have people in the Jeep. I love everything about the SRT and plan on keeping it for 10 years so I just live with it and the dealers around here just suck. Just been watching around the forum for a hopeful solution.

I have a 2015 (10-14 build date) with no downshift issues.

Re: 2014/2015 - Do you have a noticeable jerk on 6-5 shifts + a clunk?

I have a 2014 export with this problem, the clunk and jerk from 5 to 4 from day one. First software update didn't do it, then they phone me about a recall for half shafts. So I take it in and when I got it back the clunk is gone but the jerk from 5 to 4 was still there.

When I took it for a service about 3 weeks ago they did another software update and the jerk was gone from 5 to 4, now it does it from 6 to 5

It just seems to me from all this that it is very likely a software issue for the jerk and something mechanical to do with the clunk but no one seems to know for sure yet by the looks of it. Taking it in again for dealer to have another go when new fender flairs arrive for replacement.

Re: 2014/2015 - Do you have a noticeable jerk on 6-5 shifts + a clunk?

I genuinely believe there are two separate issues that just happen to be working in concert.

#1 is likely a software issue, given the smoothness of this unit in general in other vehicles, and results in the 6-5 (and other downshift) jerkiness

#2 on some vehicles is a mechanical issue (apparently not in the transmission itself as several of us have now had full tranny replacements with no improvement), either in the transfer case, drive shaft, half shafts, or elsewhere in the drivetrain which causes a clunk/pop sound when the transmission causes a shift in the drivetrain from the rough shifts

I am really keeping my fingers crossed for the upcoming 2015 software update, but I'm not super confident.

2014. 6-5 clunk and 5-4. Nothing I can't live with but very annoying at times. 5-4 is the most problematic. Took to dealership and got no help.

^ I will agree that it is 50% software and 50% hardware on some vehicles. I just wish SRT/Jeep would get on the ball about it. I am sure they are reading these forums and seeing everyone's complaints/problems. They could actually lose business this way on these vehicles, as I myself am very unsure about purchasing until there is a 100% sure fix.
Hopefully the new update will be the end all fix all!
Good luck everyone.

Re: 2014/2015 - Do you have a noticeable jerk on 6-5 shifts + a clunk?

I had several updates to my 14 yesterday.

There was a several including a transfer case and transmission updates.
Mine is so far, shifting smooth. Mine is an early 14 build, 4/13. Only a little under 7k on the clock.

I don't have the RRT / flash info on me, but I can tell you this - it still is smooth but it seems to shift more affirmatively. Less slippage during the shifts.

Dealer SRT mechanic said there is another update coming too he heard. For certain build dates. I wonder if the build dates may coincide with the location of the transmission manufacture? Germany or US.
