It was a bit of a whirlwind tour of the show yesterday, so I didn't get to spend too much time in the GC SRT, but I did notice that the rear view mirror did not have the U-Connect 911 buttons. I do remember reading somewhere in the 10,000 ++ posts that U-Connect 911 (or something like that) was not available in Canada. I had interpreted that as "not available at launch", but the missing buttons make me think that the functions available through the buttons will, obviously, never be available.

Maybe Milous can reconfirm the availability (or not) of the full U-Connect Services and one of our JNAP friends can confirm that other Canadian builds do or don't have the buttons (as I'm hoping this SRT was another per-launch vehicle).

Uconnect Access is not available in Canada nor can it be added at a future point in time. There is no definitive date when Uconnect Access services will be available in Canada. Numerous obstacles currently prevent the Canadian launch of Uconnect Access including availability of the underlying cellular technology in Canada.

We have three cell companies Canada wide and then a handful of others that are owned by one of the three. So it appears like we have 5-10 companies, but in reality - three. Rogers (largest), Bell and then Telus.

Telus and Bell both piggyback off Rogers in some areas and Rogers is terrible, on a good day. To put in in perspective - Rogers to Canadians is At&T to Americans.

in some cities, unstoppable. In other locations, one bar is hard to achieve.

Keeping in mind the population of Canada (34 million) is less people than the state of California (38 million) so no real competition up here for major cell companies to come in. No infrastructure to provide crazy fast speeds etc.

Milous, is there any way to find out if the head units and wiring harnesses are the same between US and Canadian cars? The reason Uconnect-Access likely doesn't work in Canada is that Sprint is the provider in the US. I imagine they haven't signed a Machine to Machine (M2M) roaming deal with the CDMA operators in Canada as the issue. If the head units and wiring harnesses are the same, I will bet there will someone who swaps the rear view mirror and figures out how to mod a Canadian WK2 to work with the Canadian operators.

It would be also interesting to see how the cellular modem is incorporated into the head unit. E.g. Can the module be swapped for a faster network (LTE or HSPA) or is the module deeply imbedded into the head unit design.

Do you think there's any way to find this info out?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee SRT8 - Features & Changes

Couple quick questions... I was at the Chicago auto show and the SRT there was preproduction and didnt even have everything inside... No power inverter in the rear, no SRT pages on the head unit, etc.

#1 Will the production models have the Power inverter plug in the rear along with the 2x USB power ports?

#2 I assume that the real thing will have SRT performance pages on the head unit like all the other SRT's

#3 I know Scott got word from a valid source that the head lamp LED ring will NOT turn on while in drive. Can anyone else confirm the truth to this? Id really like to know why there isnt an option to have the LED halo on while in drive. If its only on in park what the hell is the point? I know the LED bar on the bumper is on, but there should be an option! This will def need to be modded ASAP.

yes yes and no. That was just for show...I PROMISE....the LEDS will NOT be on while driving. Those trucks were NOT running....they were competely on electric power that they use at car shows. I was told by Dave Cottrell...lead engineer on the SRT

So they are on on the 300s while driving, but not on for the GC... That's strange. I suppose because there is already the LED bar below...probably some government law about too many lights on and they are distracting during the day.

I soo don't like coming to this forum. All I see is an SRT here and an SRT there, and none in my driveway.
