Re: 2014 Shark Fin Antenna on 2012

We were told that by the lead engineer on the wk2 srt.....and no...its not simple for everyone. Simple for everyone is placing the antenna on the roof. ...plugging it in and sticking it down. Why come here with the attitude? I would guess 99% of members here dont know what fakra connectors even are.

Very good info.....like i said above ...you should do a how to with pics to help everyone out.

Attitude? Lol.. Maybe your ego was hurt when I corrected you... Again, to be fair, I did start my comment with "NOOBS".

But honestly if you can install an after market radio, you can make a fakra adapter...

I'm not a rocket scientist and don't work in the field of electronics or connectivity or whatever you call this and figured it out pretty quick.

It's sad a lead engineer would give false information. He could have said "not possible without modification of the wiring connectors"

I've already put my car back together.
My text should be illustrative enough for anyone with half a brain. Combine that with the videos on YouTube illustrating coaxial crimping tools that will make a fakra connector and you're set.

I thought this site was full of members who mod their vehicles. How can anyone not know what a fakra connector is when all cars are filled with them these days?
Was it you who used the term "wiring architecture"?

That implies that antenna will not work what so ever. When it's really just the connectors that are different, using the same wiring architecture.

Anyway, hopefully my info has shed light on the fact that this IS possible for anyone with an hour or so to spare and is willing to try.

Re: 2014 Shark Fin Antenna on 2012

My 2015 Aussie JGC SRT antenna is rubbish, can I get something that is better?

I have a Max Steel Color model so black would be fine I think?

So sad.....you didnt correct me at all. Its not a direct replacement like the OP asked....and neither is your solution. And i said "electrical architecture" The 2014 was a complete new electectrical architecture from the 2011-2013. We took the lead engineers word and looked no further. We took his word thst the wiring was different. No one really cared as there was an aftermarket replacement. Thank u for the new mod. Also thank u for the rude comments about the forums and its members. They will weed you out with comments like that.

Noobs are what we consider people who dig up threads that have not had a post in 15 months to try and pretend they're superior than others. What's sad is that it probably took you the entire 15 months to find someone to help you put your antenna on.

As for this forum being full of members that mod their vehicles, yup they sure do, they all had their shark fin put on years ago.

Looking at all 41 of your previous posts you do indeed like to argue and pretend to be superior, please to try keep the discussions somewhat polite.

Enjoy the forum

Re: 2014 Shark Fin Antenna on 2012

Anyway back on track......................

Can I get something better for my JGC SRT 2015 as it's useless, I travel about 50km to work and where my previous vehicles AM/FM radios were working fine good reception etc...................this is crap, static etc it's like it runs out of range.

To give you an example a Toyota Landcruiser I had would receive Sydney AM/FM radio stations 180km away with ease, I don't want my JGC SRT to receive the same station, I just want it to receive the local stations.

What I'm asking is for Floon34 to hopefully answer, I get the info you have supplied previously and have had no problem with checking your description on Google to see the connectors, crimpers etc I need to do the job.

I have a couple of N00BIE questions to ask and I ask these because I don't want to Fu*k the Aerial/Antenna up in any way, you may roll your eyes I simply don't care, however if you have the info please share it.

My question are as follows

1. Can I get a better, boosted type aerial/shark fin somewhere in black.

1.A If I can't get a better aerial/antenna somewhere can my original be boosted in some way

2. Can you tell me my areial/antenna type I have no xm sirrus in Australia, I'm assuming that I will have SatNav and AM/FM only

3. How do I get the plastic shark fin off the vehicle in the first place, is it a matter of just unsticking it, is it glued etc.

4. When I do get it off what next

Thanks in advance

There is an aftermarket Shark Fin specifically designed for your 2012. I have one. It comes from Canada, at SharkFinAntenna.com or something similar. They paint it to your color code. Easy to install. Only downside is slight reduction in AM/FM signal strength for distant stations. It may not be listed as an available part, but if you phone or email them, you can order it. Great customer service.

Thanks BigHemi, I actually ordered this shortly after this post was made 2 years ago. Then I actually said screw it and upgraded to the 2014 to get the better antenna.

So have you installed the 2014 and if so did you use the method that floon described on the first page? Also, do you have the part number for the brilliant black antenna?
