Re: 2014 SRT oil change...

I knew there had been quite a few failures. Ive used the K&N gold filters for years on all my Jeeps. It also has the nut welded on the end so it can be removed with a regular wrench.

Can you elaborate on what sort of "failures" you had? And, who changed the filter (self or shop).

The dopes building our cars definitely torque them on too tightly and do not appear to apply oil on the ring.
In defense of JNAP, the V8 engines are assembled in Mexico and shipped via donkey to JNAP. So JNAP doesn't install the oil filters. But I'm sure they just pop the oil filter on and tighten it until the threads start to smoke and to them that means its tight.

This might help...In any oil changes I do I usually put some if the used oil over the ridges and the seal or gasket of the filter like I've read people doing, then I hand screw the filter by hand after it snug, I do a quarter turn or half a turn with my hand to make sure it's nice and tight. That way I know how much force I put by using my hands. Hope it helps.

That's how I was taught to do it. Dip your index finger in the used oil and lightly lube the gasket on the filter. I always do a 1/4 turn more when it snugs. I've never had on come loose.

Re: 2014 SRT oil change...

I suspect that all of the "issues" being reported have nothing to do with "defective" filters. I have yet to see any convincing evidence of defective filters, and will continue to use them exclusively as I have done for the past 13 years.

More than likely the result of being installed by inexperienced people and NOT the fault of the filter.

Re: 2014 SRT oil change...

I understand what your saying Milous...but its odd that all the sudden there are problems on the 12+ that were never reported before on the 06-10. We really have no idea if its the filters or the install. My point is....have it changed by an SRT tech. or do it yourself!

That's because no one is giving any specific details. So far, ZERO proof of defective filters.

That's why I have always done my own oil changes, I know that it has been done right. Oil changes are not rocket science, it's too bad that there are mechanics out there who cannot figure out how to install a filter so it doesn't leak.

Switch to aftermarket? Why? I'd try switching mechanics first.
