Exclamation 2015 Borla Catback is NOT compatible with SRT 2014 - according to borla specialist

So I called Borla to get a professional feedback regarding drone issue from the catback as discussed in the previous topic. To my surprise, the Borla specialist told me upfront that it is NOT fully compatible with my 14 SRT !! Reasons are :
  1. It will drone TOO much (they had people returning it due to drone)
  2. It will bring up a "Check Engine" issue due to sensors in the 14 SRT that won't play well with their catback
  3. There will be some loss of Power

He said unless I get a tune, the check engine issue is bound to get present along with some power loss. Now all of this is according to them, so I don't know if anyone has a catback in their SRT '13 or '14 and running fine. But from what they say, it's quite concerning that I was about to get it because the dealer suggested to install it for me!!! Thoughts?

The old exhaust valve check engine....lol. i havent had the exhaust valves for 6 months now....no lights. No other sensors on the exhaust unless you get into the downpipes and headers. The borla looks no different basically thatn the other catbacks in design really....but maybe there is drone? Dont know. I thought about getting the 2nd version but decided to wait.

You mean they refer to the check engine light because the catback eliminates the valves?

I think the valves were causing the check engine light and removing the valves corrected the check engine light issue. As Scott said drone?

No valves will cause check engine light to Come on for me occasionally with lots of WOT driving...it goes away after several cycles of normal driving. If you drive normally, you won't see check engine lights. Btw I fixed my valves to be open all the time.....

So that's what causes the check engine light right? Anyone knows if Borla's new catback system has any type of valves in their exhaust line? Because if not, then what the specialist told me must be related to this ..

But also, the loss of power is disappointing..

Well isn't that what a tune is supposed to counter act? I mean if the PCM is optimized to run with the exhaust, I'd imagine there would be a boost in power.

I'd also imagine the valves help with low end as much as they do for drone lol

Yeah he basically said you need a tune with a catback (only on any wk2 below 2015) to avoid the power loss...Why doesn't the 15 need a tune? No idea.
