2015 exhaust choices

So, I went through five weeks of reading everything I could find, on here, about exhausts and found a bunch of contradicting opinions on what's enough vs. too much noise and whether one system kills drone or not.

Add to this, Jeep claiming that they solved drone with an active noise-cancelling audio system.

Who has a sport exhaust on a 2015?

Is the drone too present for 2+ hours of consistent driving?

I'm leaning towards the Corsa Black because the look suits my taste perfectly and they claim to suppress drone.

Re: 2015 exhaust choices

Ollie, I am not an expert and I am not a bullshitter, I can offer you my experience so far.

I have a MY15 and after 2 borla systems, a lot of research and talking too a host of people in Australia, I am of the opinion they all drone.

Large V8 motors plus automatic transmissions and cylinder deactivation will equal drone in some form or another once you modify the exhaust period.

Anyone who says that don't, in my opinion is bullshitting you. ( just ask them to guarantee no drone, with a 100% refund and see what kind of response you get)

No one likes admitting there exhaust drones...they all 'sound great and I can feel more power etc etc etc....'

I am back to the original exhaust on ours. I can not live with any drone, I do a lot of highway driving.

Personally I do not want or like loud systems but would love an genuine v8 rumble. That is why I am about to get a custom centre section ( replacing the suitcase) only and leaving the stock mufflers. Hopefully this will give me the result I'm after.

just my 2 cents, I know a lot of people on here will have contrary opinions and tell you how they have a great sounding, no drone exhaust with increased power etc etc ......

Good luck let me know how you go and I will do the same !

Re: 2015 exhaust choices

That's exactly what I thought. Since the original exhaust also lets off some drone, in Eco mode. Granted, not much but it's there.

In my experience, the rear mufflers aren't the part that kill the drone so, keeping them while removing the center resonator shouldn't work either.

The only way to do it, is to make equal-length headers, that combine from opposite sides, instead of 4-1 on each side. Like a Tubi system for a Ferrari.

This does cost more, and yields more HP in the top end. It also produces more of a European V8 sound than American.

I'm going to see a friend of mine who builds exhausts for aircrafts and race cars soon and will see how much he'd charge to make one.

Also, inconnel with internal ceramic TBC would be best. It did wonders for my Ducati. Might just cost a kidney on the SRT.

That sounds awesome. You Aussies always have the coolest V8 stuff. I miss that place. But alas, I'm now back in Canada, where we don't get shiet.

Re: 2015 exhaust choices

They do make this full kit.

Complete Exhaust System: 2012-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 WK2 6.4L - Chrysler/ Dodge/ Jeep/ Ram - Complete Exhaust Systems

The headers look better than most i've seen.

The trick is knowing who to believe, everyone has free advise but a lot of it is well intentioned but just plain wrong...if I were living where you are, I'd be paying a lot of attention to what Chad from black ops has too say

Re: 2015 exhaust choices

Plenty of threads on headers, kooks seem to be the go too brand if headers are your thing...I looked long and hard at kooks headers or GTHaus , but could not justify the cost on a bang for buck basis. In the end they both would probably be too loud for me anyway.

Re: 2015 exhaust choices

I've been following a thread on another site about the AFE system, their system seems to be very well balanced in the sound department with good power output on a 2014 JGC SRT

Much appreciated brother thanks for the kind words

GTHaus has 0 drone I can back that with 100% guarantee too but it's big bucks and not really trying to give a system away for free seeing it will be the buyers word agains mine and 100's of owners LOLOL.

Next choice would be Magnaflow think it's the next mildest system out a lot quieter outside too tho'

Third up would be the AFE only because it's a little louder outside

King of drone is Corsa next Borla we have replaced a combined 25+ systems and this is a fact and directly from customers not just an opinion of mine. My job is to give facts and this statement is fact based by customers that buy or replace from us only or a shop replacing for a customer through us. This is the main reason I don't sell either of these 2012-15 setups on the website. Theirs just too many complaints not trying to deal with complaints I'm too busy to be honest and those shops who pushed these systems on people are now looked down on and for me a good margin and lining my pockets just isn't worth it.

Anything with very little design and a straight through muffler is going to have drone Borla and Corsa both fall into this category. Seem they really don't do much in the sound control or quality department rather just keep using the same mufflers across the board from what I've seen and pumping out systems just read the fitment problems and tips alignment issues alone never mind the sound!

I can speak from my recent experience with the new Borla ATAK and I love it. After 2 weeks of daily drive I can say the only presence of any drone is in auto mode around 75km/hr on light load in 7-8 gear. It is barely noticeable and not present in Sport mode. I've had mates hear it and say "That's nothing".

It might be my rig too as it was pretty well like that stock too. I went for Borla as the GT Haus is too loud for me and there is a lot of negative/conflicting feedback about most other brands.

I will back Chad on the alignment though it isn't perfect and the shop I had install it have had 2 goes at it now. It's pretty good now and I am super fussy with this stuff so I'm happy.

Sound wise it's a beast, I love it.

There is another thread on the AFE system; AFE Mach Force Exhaust

Hope this helps!

So I replaced the centre section with a custom one. 2 X 5 inch round, X 10 long too the stock mufflers. The result was a couple of decibels louder which was nice, but then also a couple of decibels louder in drone as well, particularly about 75 to 80 kmph.

After driving it like this for 2 weeks , I have now put it back too stock...

I could make the drone disappear but downshifting into a lower gear, but this is not my preferred method of driving.

So since I got my SRT, I have tried an axel back system...fail, cat back system....fail and custom centre section...fail ,

so I'm really left with headers too stock?

I know this is not a performance gain, but should raise the Db's a bit whilst no drone??? Ollie?

My exhaust shop said larger resonators in the centre 1. Wound not fit. 2. Probably wouldn't work either....

Would love to try the GTHaus, blackops, but with the Aussie USD atm, is not an option.
