2015 Side Panel Road Rash...3 season tires???

I have the Pirellli P zeros, and they are absolutely sand blasting/chipping my lower sides of my SRT. I don't travel on gravel or terrible roads. It seems the sticky tire compound will pick up anything on the road.

Like I alluded to in my splash guard thread, others with the all season tires say they are not noting this problem.

I cannot believe the SRT team would not design some kind of factory wheel flare or some type of decent integrated splash guards to protect the sides of these vehicles.

I realize they do have some minimal "protective film" applied from the factory, but it is NO where near enough.

Anyone else plagued by the road rash??

Re: 2015 Side Panel Road Rash...3 season tires???

I have this issue on my 2014. With all season tires. The rash is the worst in front of the rear tires. I believe the gravel dumped on snowy roads is a large factor in my case.

I have snow tires on 6 months of the year, much narrower, I still have chipped flares.... Agree some splash guards would be great, but is, what it is

That's where my damage is most prevalent too. The factory protective film already looks awful with only 2900 miles on the clock!!!

I did manage to install some custom splash guards I think I can live with, but they are not as protective as my wife's huge Mopar flaps on her GC.

I had the factory film replaced with 3M that runs further up on the door. There was pretty severe chipping there.

I was gonna do the same, but the paint is peppered already. So, I did the splash guard thing.

Next SRT or Hellcat hopefully, I will have the sides wrapped in conjunction with some kind of splash guard (minimalistic as possible).

Just maybe the engineers will come up with a factory solution to this problem.

Re: 2015 Side Panel Road Rash...3 season tires???

I looked for splash guards and couldn't find anything decent. Also concerned because the splash guards (depending on the kind) will trap dirt between them and the paint. As for the wrecked paint, I Dr. Colorchip'ed the area, after that from head on you couldn't see the damage from the side at an angle with light you could see it. Once it is 3m'd over you can't tell that the paint has been repaired.

Used some Rally Armor mud flaps, seem to be working well!

Re: 2015 Side Panel Road Rash...3 season tires???

Unless you fit very large mudflaps, I think you'll find the stones will still reach the area in front of the rear wheel arch. It's extremely vulnerable.

Side steps are probably the only total solution.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: 2015 Side Panel Road Rash...3 season tires???

I have a 2014 and had peppering from day one and I too have the three season tires. The highway I commute on everyday is just brutal debris filled nightmare. Made me mad at first but now I just deal with it. I have a buddy that has access to some rock guard film so I will have some larger pieces made. Really shows up on Redline Red, couldn't imagine what it would be like on black.

I did the same on my '12. The 3M stuff is standing up pretty well. This is my second winter since I removed the factory film & installed 3M.
