2015 SRT - Tow

Yea, yea. It's a street rod. I wanna street rod that can also tow, to avoid getting a pickup instead.

Meanwhile, the 2011 WK2 5.7L has been a workhorse at high elevation and long distance towing with larger loads. She's make several 2.2k mile trips in the Mountain West with either boat or loaded camper, no real sweat. The boat and trailer pic attached are 6k lbs.

Can anyone on the SRT board please chime in about its towing capability? Thanks.

Re: 2015 SRT - Tow

Just finished towing my brothers VW bug to Las Vegas with my 2015 SRT Jeep. It towed a lot better than I had expected. Just left it in tow mode and drove it. Averaged over 15mpg towing 60- 65 mph. Trailer weighs approximately 6000 pounds. Lots of passing power and great brakes. Ride was very good. Was expecting it to ride really rough, but was very smooth...ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1444870093.305267.jpg

Re: 2015 SRT - Tow

Had a 11 and a 14 overland w the hemi your right is is a workhorse its in my opinion a better hauler for the supple fact that it's self leveling. I just got a 15 srt without the tow package only because I have access to vehicles with towing ability to put my boat in the water which is only a 10 minute ride. It looks like your pulling a 25' not sure with the srt suspension how it would handle it. I'm sure others will Chime in.

2015 SRT - Tow

Thanks gents. I was a bit worried about the SRT squatting even with lighter tongue weights in a dual axle trailer. The Overland's air and load leveling is strong in this area. Also figured an SRT mid RM drop would not play nice with a hitched load.

Re: 2015 SRT - Tow

they say that i can tow 7k or so no prob. the main thing you need to look at will be the payload capacity. check your tongue weight, plus passengers, plus gear. it add up real fast and will most probably be your limiting factor

Re: 2015 SRT - Tow

This has nothing to do with towing, but I came from a 2011 5.7l too, and man are you in for a great time. Being familiar with the same platform but feeling it with enhanced capabilities makes it an exceptionally satisfying driving experience.

We even joined this forum at the same time, lol.

Re: 2015 SRT - Tow

I tow a lot with mine and my racecar plus trailer is about 6k as well. It does a great job especially if you add a weight distribution hitch. I forget it is back there are time. I just finished towing from Ohio to Phoenix and it was a beast and had no issues the entire trek. I recommend it for towing.

Re: 2015 SRT - Tow

I came from a 2012 JGC Limited 5.7 HEMI and tow an enclosed motorcycle trailer several times a year. The SRT is night and day better. The Limited did OK, but I never felt like it had enough rear end gear and wanted to downshift at the slightest incline. It's amazing what a difference the extra torque of the 6.4 and the 8-speed transmission make. Totally effortless towing, now. Plus, great brakes and excellent ride quality and handling in "tow" mode. The whole package really cuts down on driver fatigue over long distances.

Re: 2015 SRT - Tow

I've read good things about folks towing cross-country with the SRT and that was part of my decision to purchase one.. Plan on towing my wife's built Rubicon to out-of-state off road events..
