I have also installed the Atak full cat-back on my 16' Night. I questioned how loud it was at first, but absolutely love it now! Took me almost two hours to get the stock cat-back off, its heavy, awkward and just plain dumb!

After that I had the Atak installed in less than an hour. Only a couple things I will say, first the x-pipe can go on either way, but I believe when installed the rear section of the x-pipes should be pointing down just a bit. Also plan to spend at least a half hour getting the tips to line up properly. Because of the "L" pipe between the X-pipe and the mufflers, the mufflers actually can move quite a bit in all directions.

If you can get past the cold start bark, the rest is intoxicating.

Oooooooooooo the cold start is the best part! Reminds me of my Hellcat (overall, though, this exhaust is quieter than a Kitty)

I also LOVE the low speed rumble when you creep forward, sounds SO MEAN. It will be nice if you're driving through a car show, really makes the Jeep stand out.

I was in a long drive-thru lineup yesterday and the Jeep sounded SO good each time I rumbled forward.

I love this thing!

(if you're not used to loud exhausts, I can definitely see your apprehension initially at the cold start)

Yeah, I've had straight pipe turbo-backs and open waste gates before, so I know what loud really is. This 392 with the Atak just has a distinct rumble while cruising and burble when off the gas that just makes me so happy.

I attended my local Cars and Coffee this past weekend and had both Cats and Vipers admiring my Jeep and its new sound. Lots of thumbs up around town, and even more WTF was that when I floor it thru an underpass.

Thanks for all the replies fellas and input on the install. I initially was going to go with AFE but with the issues and more so their (lack of) customer service on their cat back, this is probably the route I will be going. My brother and I will do the install.

I do look forward to the "loud/different" sound she'll make. My old lady, probably not.

FWIW, Borla's customer service is outstanding! After receiving my Atak system, (which was drop shipped directly from Borla) I noticed the right muffler chrome tip was damaged in shipment. I called and talked directly to a live person who overnighted me both the left and the right muffler, as well as offered to cover install cost for the inconvenience.

Borla has a very happy customer for life.

How are you dealing with MDS highway drone ?

Its been getting on my nerves lately . Like you i enjoy every other aspect of the exhaust . Next week im going to install the factory Suitcase mid muffler in place of the borla x pipe . I believe this mated to the borla rear section will remedy the issue .

Before you get too crazy, have you actually noticed a difference in fuel economy with the MDS deactivated? I took a trip from southern CT to Baltimore about a month ago and saw next to no change...I now do the same....Anything over 35mph and the dial goes to sport.
MDS was designed to keep the democrats in Washington happy..IMHO of course.

The SRT drives so piss poorly with MDS, I don't ever run it on the highway. I didn't buy this car for the MPG. To each their own, but on top of the MDS sucking, it's an almost 500 hp jeep that wasn't made for "good" gas mileage.

Putting around the city I'll usually leave MDS on but even then it drives me a little nuts.

Totally agree. I averaged about 18 or so on the trip I mentioned above, regardless of the mode. My '11 Summit Hemi didn't do much better if I recall correctly.

Back to the Borla discussion, ive had the ATAK on my 15 for nearly 2 years and still love it.... it does quieten down a little over time but still roars at WOT.... Alot of snap, crackle and pop especially using paddle down shift if you time it right.

My fave is dropping the hammer windows down through the short tunnels we have around my area in Oz, very entertaining.......

Now considering kooks headers to go with the setup but worried about cabin noise if anyone has any experience please chime in.

Enjoy!

Its a solid choice, youll love it.... The only other option IMO is the GTHaus but at double the cost here in Oz

Does that code work for a borla atak axleback? I have a '15 and am thinking about the axleback cuz I want more bite than stock but not full on cat back loud.

Go ALL THE WAY, man. The cat-back isn't as loud as you fear it is. It's PERFECT.

When you're driving it's damn well quiet. You won't be happy with the axle-back. Trust me... I have pen.:cool:

(for anyone who missed the "pen" reference, see the following youtube link)

And i dont know why the quote thing didnt work there??

I would wait and save up then. It's an extra $920 on an $80,000 vehicle.

Don't compromise.

Look on YouTube; the axle-back sounds like poo compared to the full cat-back.

personally i would just get the axelback.

I just ended up taking out the borla section and reinstalling the factory suitcase to the Borla rear section . Much better . Drone is almost fully eliminated . Yes its quieter but still much better then stock . I guess im a weird one who wants the best of both worlds. Good MPG and quiet when crusing and more aggressive sound when im on it . Im actually amazed at the mileage this 6.4 L can get on highway runs .

Now heres the weird thing . Im no mechanic but ill do my best at explaining . When i had the borla full system on i noticed a few things . Yes cold start is insanely loud ( my neighbors dont miss it ) . With the MDS active or any low rev driving there is vibration . But its like there was a hesitation less responsive feeling . Once i put the factory suitcase back in throttle repose and overall snappiness was back . No idea what causes this but its very noticeable . Even my wife noticed this . Would this be a back pressure thing ?

What's the purpose? Weighing down your car for better traction?

My car has no loss in power, 0-60mph times actually improved. I'm also not sure where all this 'vibration' and drone is that you're talking about. Not happening over here.

To anyone thinking of getting this exhaust, don't be scared by his posts - his experience is not the norm.

I'm sorry, cold start "INSANELY loud"??? Come on... My Hellcat was WAY louder. This car DOES have almost 500hp, it should SOUND LIKE IT!

haha .
All i can share is my expereeince and what borla told me . Today i was chatting with steve and they are actually redesigning the exhaust in efforts to elimanate the opverlly loud cold start and mds drone .

Really its a matter of how sensitive you are . My neighbors are friends so they wouldent complain but they did say they can hear it loud and clear everytime it starts ( i park in a garage ) As for the drone they all will drone with MDS activated . It even drones stock just not as loud . Its common sense . If the exhaust gets louder so does the MDS drone .

When i explained the vibration and hesitation Borla was well aware of it .

IRONSIDE you dont need to defend the system as i also bought it . Just doing what these forums are intended for and share all helpful info . As if this info was available before i would of went in a different direction .

That's my point. You're going to scare people away from what is, in my opinion, the perfect muscle car sounding exhaust.

The cold start is MUSIC on this Jeep. Every time I've shown someone they've grinned from ear to ear. You paint the exhaust in an overly negative light and it doesn't reflect its true character.

My Hellcat droned STOCK so bad it gave me a headache from the reverberation. This exhaust is SO quiet when cruising. Yes, when MDS kicks on, you can FAINTLY hear it if you listen close but it's SO quiet it would never bother ANYONE.

ESPECIALLY anyone who has ever owned an aftermarket exhaust. I've had so many (Borla, Corsa, Zoomers, etc) and THIS exhaust has been the BEST so far without exception.

The ATAK is definitely louder than stock, but then, that's the point, isn't it? Otherwise you would have purchased the S-type.

I think the website even says "most aggressive/not for the faint of heart". If Borla IS redesigning it, I encourage everyone thinking of getting one to buy it before they wreck it.
