Stop light racing is where our Jeeps kill most vehicles. This is totally the best platform for that. IMO, 9 out of 10 times you'd smoke a z06 to the next light because the driver got excited and spun.

It does not go offroad - it needs to have at least one stellar, redeeming qaulity for $50k and 12 miles to the gallon. Otherwise it is an above average SUV with horrible gas mileage, with no offroad capabilities.
It has to do something the best...
So, where did you hear 12 mpg? I heard 15% more efficient than ours and we get 12/15 now. I average 13.0 and drive like I stole it.

I'm with you. I just wish you guys would get the video out of the head to head race so this discussion can be ended.
What I am curious about is what final changes will happen between the show car and production?

Does someone know where the horsepower and torque charts for the WK SRT and the WK2 SRT engines are?

It would be nice to see the curves!

Re: 5150 Curb Weight....Ugh!!!

The 392 cranks out 465 hp at 6,000 rpm and 465 pound-feet of torque at 4,200 rpm, compared with 420 hp at 6,200 and 420 lb-ft at 4,800 from the old engine. Notable here is the 200-rpm-lower power peak and 600-rpm-lower torque peak.

One of the few knocks against the 6.1 was weak-sauce power down low. SRT says the new engine has an extra 90 lb-ft of torque at 2,900 rpm versus the 6.1. Luckily, the 392 still likes to rev, and the higher the tach rises, the more the Jeep belches out a thrilling blend of ripping and snorting V8 music from its retuned sport exhaust.

Re: 5150 Curb Weight....Ugh!!!

The 12mpg/18mpg is taken right from the published Jeep website.

This is all good news...didn't know about the details of the grunt down low. All I was saying is what the numbers are and what they translate to.

My thought was if it has the 8 speed tranny - the performance gap could be closed - but they stuck with the 5 speed.

It's a great vehicle. I guess as in the last gen it was king of the hill in performance (put up with the other shortcomings becuase of it), why not continue the trend?

Its a fast truck and a nice truck that gets 12mpg - it should be the fastest truck in it's segment. Period.

So for example (the X5M which we saw in the spy shots was also used during hot weather testing) 555hp (5368lbs) 0-60 in 4.5 13/18mpg

The kicker is the $86k base price...with any options you are almost to 6 figures - for "like" perfromance

The X5m weighs 218 lbs more....has almost 100 more HP, has twin turbos with a simple chipping will likely produce another 80-100 HP. We are stuck with a NA vehicle so mods - that make any kind of real HP are internal, or nitrous etc, which may ruin daily driveability for most are no really doable.

Just saying - if you tossed in another 45-50hp, you would have a world beater for $50k

Jeep has already published the 0-60 at 4.8 secs...which according to times I ran in my 06 is a slower truck. In the SRT8 performance segment and reason for existing do you come out with the next gen that is a slower model?

"Well it is not as fast as the old, one but more refined"......super.
