Re: 5150 Curb Weight....Ugh!!!

^^buy the new X5 M then. And who said the new WK2 is slower than the WK? Is that a fact? What was the 2006 SRT 8 published 0-60 time before the vehicle was built?

You have got to re-read your post. You answer alot of your own questions.

I'd take a 50K vehicle, that gets the same MPG as a 100K vehicle and per Jeeps reported times of 4.8 is only .3 behind it in 0 - 60?

8 speeds help lower powered cars, keep their rpms in the peak of the torque curve and to maximize fuel effeciency. A torque monster of a V8 won't realize those gains, especially when torque peaks are so high at such low RPMS.

As a MFR, you don't want shortcomings. And customers main complaints were addressed. Interior quality, interior space and Lack of towing ability.

Didn't think so. There is no OTHER in this segment. The X5M is not in this segment and at 1 MPG better city not even much better, nor is the Porsche.

The kicker is the $86k base price...with any options you are almost to 6 figures - for "like" perfromance
The X5m weighs 218 lbs more....has almost 100 more HP, has twin turbos with a simple chipping will likely produce another 80-100 HP. We are stuck with a NA vehicle so mods - that make any kind of real HP are internal, or nitrous etc, which may ruin daily driveability for most are no really doable.
Ok..so you can't add turbos or S/C's to NA vehicles any more? And 20K in mods would make some serious HP and still you'd have enough to buy a Subaru WRX left over.

"Well it is not as fast as the old, one but more refined"......super.
Just take a minute and look up what the published #s were for the 2006 way back in 2005.
You're comparing real world #s to something Chrysler publishes?
Well, that's just not fair now is it?
Something that is interesting and something Jeep did Publish was that it is over 3 seconds quicker from 0 - 100 - 0.
That should tell you something is a bit off from the "Other" published numbers.

All great points and good dialog. This thing should be with the Mags very soon...let's see what they come up with. My guess is we will see that weight kills performance - all around.

Sure it's got the bigger brakes to help with the 0-100-0 number...but my guess is when the numbers come in we will have some weak(er) sauce here.

Guess you didn't see scottina06's post above. If the new challenger is running.12.6 or better stock, and this is faster than the other SRT's, then my money is on it's quicker than WK by .5 in the 1/4.
I'll bet money on it's faster than WKSRT8!

Here's a video clip of the new Corsa exhaust on the 392. Notice the 3rd gear chirp!

Re: 5150 Curb Weight....Ugh!!!

Actually, putting a supercharger or turbo isn't as much of an option on the 392. If I remember, it has a 10.5 : 1 compression ratio. So not so much! This isn't comparing apples to apples, but the only reason the most of us bought the WK SRT was because of the fact that it was the baddest thing out there at the baddest price! Not because it was in the top 4 or 5 in performance and at a good price. If you want people to go out and buy an X5M because they don't like the fact that the new WK2 isn't the fastest, then maybe I should tell you to go buy a truck or an overland if you want to tow. It's not like SRT had a problem with selling the WK1 SRT's. Also, maybe the Jeep isn't out yet, but we can obviously see what the 392 does and that'll tell us all we need to know about the engine in the Jeep, hell there's already two Chally's running around here and I'm telling you that my cam only Jeep has that ASS! I'm sure the new WK2 seats are nice though............................................ ........................................... Who gives a crap! You want luxury, go buy a BMW. If you want bad ass power, that's why you buy a HEMI. That should have been an ad for sure.

HUH? Why would I want people to go out and buy an X5m? And who wants a slow ass truck or Overland? Maybe you should have bought the 5.7 if you were going to put a cam and modify your engine?

That is certainly a judgemental question. When you look at the SnailBlazer which was slower, but could tow more, sold 30K vehicles between 06 - 09.
Meanwhile the SRT8 only sold 11717. So...I'd consider that a problem! The slower vehicle sold 3X as many!!!!

It's people like you who limit the possibilities. Why can't you have a bad ass Jeep, with more power and faster than the first edition, with better handling, better stopping, better towing and have more luxury too?
Boy..Talk about picky!
As for the rest of us...I'd take all they want to give us if they are giving us a faster truck than what we have.
And...I'm sure the 30K SnailBlazer owners would be happy to come back to a vehicle that they can use as an SUV and their track car/truck.
You have to agree, that it would be great for everyone if Chrysler sold more than the measly 11K the first 4 years sold. That would ensure the SRT8 Jeep in the future.

Re: 5150 Curb Weight....Ugh!!!

.6 higher compression ratio = Less boost that can be applied, so although it is not impossible, just harder to do.

When I said the "baddest", that implied that it was the top dog in performance. Not so much anymore, but it's still a good price!

What the hell does me modding a PERFORMANCE SUV have to do with "maybe you should have bought a 5.7 and modded it"????????

Maybe you should check WKJEEPS again, they produced 11717 SRT8's from 06-10, not only sold that many! I bet if you look at how many were produced, as to how many sold, the Jeep kicked the Snailblazers ass. They were in limited production as compared to the TBSS. Thats why every swinging prick doesn't have one around town! A stat that I'm proud of.

Actually I have run 12.3's cam and tune only genious! All of the mods I have put me in the low 12's, but I was doing low 12's when I just had the cam and tune alone and the other mods didn't help all that much, and that's not including the spray, which is in the 11's. I refer to this because the new 6.4 should be there naturally aspirated to be inkeeping with making this thing faster than the original. What if they made the next Gen. Corvette slower or just barely faster than the previous model? People would $hit a brick!

It's people like you who limit the possibilities of what this thing could have been by crying about towing and all the foo foo crap that luxury vehichles have. Again, I don't care how many Chrysler sells, I have a Jeep that is in limited production and will go down as a classic one day because there isn't 30,000 of them a year produced. I love it that way!

Speed isn't really the question though because everybody knows that all it takes to go faster is money, but I know that more people are going to look at the WK1 SRT's and say "that thing looks f$%king bad ass" than there are people saying that about the WK2. It doesn't have the same curb appeal that I bought the first gen. for, period!

Oh, and most of the friends I have with the TBSS's have said the new SRT8 looks too much like the regular Grandcherokee's and that the old Jeep was more badass looking, so I don't think their rushing out to buy them anytime soon.

Re: 5150 Curb Weight....Ugh!!!

Chuck...
Since we don't know REALLY about the performance, it would be wise for neither of us to comment. But...From folks on here who have seen the beast run, and claim "its the fastest SRT8" still, that would indicate it's very fast and very well could be faster than the DOUBLE priced competition.
We hopefully will know soon.
My comment about modding the 5.7 was just a bad retort to you saying I should buy a BMW or telling me to buy a truck or overland.
If you were dumping a bunch of money into the motor, then you could have just as easily started with something lesser and saved yourself the money.

As for checking the comments about Jeep sales vs production, your statement initially talked about SRT having trouble selling. I walked away with my 50K Jeep for 42K out the door and I ordered it in Nov. of '09. Discounting a vehicle by over $8k is not proof of a easily sold vehicle. I'm not alone with this discounting as well. My point was to show that the bean counters who probably wanted to shoot the Jeep SRT8 dead, had to increase sales above 11K units and also hope that they wouldn't have to discount it to do so. So appealing to the MASSES, was something they had to do to ensure the Beast living on.
Any way you look at it...The Snailblazer SS OUTSOLD the Jeep.

I'm glad you've talked to your SS buddies and they're not interested. We'll let the sales numbers speak for themselves. I GUARANTEE the 2012 Jeep will outsell the 2006. Put your $$$$ on it!

I'm sure we can point to COUNTLESS sports cars that newer versions came out that the previous owners griped about because of looks, performance or because theirs was SOOO much cooler. IN fact, I bet we can scour ANY forum and find people with the same opinions your voicing about the "new" version.
