$655 for a tire!!!

Ouch!! Just had to get 1 bloody pirelli replaced on my '14 SRT and it cost me $655 out here in Dubai! Yep, that was the lowest price I could find! Here is the reason why I had to change it - something gave my tire an enema!

20151124_164642.jpg

So, for the next time I need to change my tires, I wanted to get your opinion on Toyo Proxes S-T II tires. These seem to be the only other known option here that I have been able to find. Do any of you have these and are happy with them? They run for $195 each over here, so I can get 4 for just over what I paid for 1 pirelli!

Thanks for your help!

Re: $655 for a tire!!!

my wife had a 285 40 22" toyo st2 tires on a Durango and I didn't like them at all. They seemed very slippery in rain etc.

Re: $655 for a tire!!!

Thanks Scott. I am also worried about their heat resistance. As you can imagine, the roads get extremely hot here in the summer and the last thing I want is a tire failure at high speeds. I will have to keep looking for options then because these bloody pirellis are too expensive!

Re: $655 for a tire!!!

They are $500 here. They handle great, but the tram-lining is terrible, almost dangerous on a two lane road. I have a set of Yokos to run for the winter, hope they are better.

Re: $655 for a tire!!!

I'm actually happy with the way the pirellis drive and handle, but just cannot accept having to spend $2,600 if I have to replace all 4 tires sometime in the future! I'm going to have to keep looking for other brands.

Why can't Michelin come out with some 295's?!!

Re: $655 for a tire!!!

They are AU$795 RRP here in Australia, which is about US$600 each. You can get the non run flay Toyo's for under AU$300, which will be my next set.

Re: $655 for a tire!!!

I was going through this thread and some people had installed the Toyo's and seemed to be happy with them. Please let me know if you do end up installing them as I'd like to know how they compare to the Pirellis.. there was some talk about not enough wheel protection with the toyos as well.

Re: $655 for a tire!!!

I have 7 at 525.00 each plus 40.00 shipping each available now. so 565.00 shipped each I know after this post they will sell in like an hour I get calls daily on these and just got a call 7 where available. if you have a freight forwarder in the USA I can ship them today.

This is about 100 higher than when they where easy to come by everyone who has em jacked em up pretty good even my supply hence the higher cost.

Re: $655 for a tire!!!

Thanks man, but with shipping etc, it would end up being more expensive. Luckily I don't need to change my tires immediately, but will probably have to do so within the next year or so. Will try the toyo's out as they aren't too expensive and if they don't work out, will have to go back to the Pirellis!

Re: $655 for a tire!!!

My Pirelli Run Flats gave it up at 24000 Kilometres. I didn't like their ride and the performance was OK in my books. The Pirelli tires always tracked the Jeep allover the place. I settled on the TOYO Proxes STII. We've had a lot of rain lately and these are fine in the rain. The ride is softer since they aren't run flats. Braking is hard to judge as I just put new Hawk HPS pads on at he same time. The Tire retailer told me that the Proxes would get great mileage and should last up to 70000 KM. So far so good. I also have more money in the bank.

Re: $655 for a tire!!!

+1 on the Pirellis.

I could not stand the Pirellis tracking (pulling me) all over the road. I ended up with Yokos for the winter. It's been 30-60 degrees here (not real winter yet) but so far I am very happy with them. Good grip in the rain and while they are a little softer, still handle very well. Also road noise is about half of the Pirellis.

I've been reading a lot of people saying that their Pirellis giving up around 25,000kms.. mine (well 3 of them) are currently at 26,000kms and still look and drive fine - they probably still have another 25,000kms left in them. I'll take some pictures of their current state and post them on here. Not sure if the roads are better or because I do a fair amount of highway driving.

I'm definitely considering changing onto the Toyo's when I need to change my tires. Like you said, I will have a lot of money left in the bank!
