or
B. You would use the paddle shifters.

The issue seems to be people not putting the car into Park, which is the easiest gear to get in, along with D/S.
Not sure I understand either of your points. You can't pull the SRT directly to Sport. You have to pull it to drive, then click it back again to get it into sport, unless you use the dial to select sport mode.

No idea what you're trying to say with "you would use the paddle shifters".

Are you confused by my reference to the SRT Track experience? Those Jeeps are stopped. Put in park by one guest, then a new guest gets in a take their turn. People who are used to the 5 speeds used in most SRT's at the time would get in the Jeeps and think "what the hell is this thing?" as they struggle to select a gear while trying to focus on the event they're doing. The SRT Track Experience crew drive a lot of those vehicles from location to location, so they have tons of experience with both transmissions in parallel. The "we all hate it" comment had nothing to do with it's track performance.

Like I've said a couple times in this thread, I've never had an issue with park going to neutral. Far more frequently, it's Reverse that is annoying to get right without staring at the shifter (which is dangerous as hell in quick reverse situations).

It has gone to N instead of D for me I'd say 3-4 times in my year and a half of ownership. Usually when I start the Jeep and quickly go to D (like the car isn't letting me go to D because it's still "starting").

Re: Actor Anton Yelchin killed by Grand Cherokee in Neutral

The early SRT's had the A580 gearbox (a MB product) that had a different (gate type) shifter than the WK2 SRT. The WK2 SRT has the ZF 8HP70, the same gearbox as in my Overland Diesel. Drive to Sport requires full pull back and one click more...which I can do in less than a second without any issues.

I was referring to "using" your gearbox in Paddle Shifter mode.....I was assuming that when you referred to SRT Track Experience, that you were actually getting on a track and belting around the track with an instructor at your side .

I've never been to an SRT Track Experience so perhaps I was a little confused in reference to problems with the shifter/paddles.
Now I understand that perhaps it is a bunch of folks just test driving the SRT and they were confused as the use of the gearchange as the vehicle was new to them. However, that doesn't excuse the the SRT Track Experience instructors, who should have been more conversant with the gearchange and shouldn't have had any issues. Like I don't........!

I know. This is my 5th SRT. 3 of my previous used a MB 5 speed.

There is no instructor by your side at the SRTTE. You follow an instructor. I can tell you've never been to one.

Except, not only the SRT TE instructor expressed frustration with it, the NHTSA, FCA, the 300+ people who repoted incidents, 100 people who had their vehicles damaged, 40 people injured and several people in every thread about this shifter I've ever seen online complain about it.

Hell, this is the only car I've ever owned with threads about the shifter giving people problems.

There are YOUTUBE videos showing people how the shifter works.

There are zero arguments that support there not being design issues with this shifter.

I LIKE THE SHIFTER. But I recognize it's got quirks that other shifters don't, so I have to pay far more attention to it than any other car I've owned (including those that were MANUAL). That's a bad design.

Illegal - I think we all get that you think it's a bad design. I think you've countered everyones opinions at this point and not sure what you're hoping to gain by continuously stating the same thing over and over. If you are so against the design, why not trade up to a 16 or get something else? This thread is tired at this point. I'm gonna go back to enjoying my SRT vehicle - t-shifter and all!!

I never said I hated the shifter. I just recognize it has faults.

You can recognize something is a bad design, without having to sell your $70K Jeep. It's not a deal breaker for me, but I TOTALLY understand why it was recalled and why FCA changed the design.

Re: Actor Anton Yelchin killed by Grand Cherokee in Neutral

Well I like my 2014/15 shifter, I haven't tried the 2016 shifter yet, but I do use sport mode a bit, and having to reach for a button on the dash when I'm in the middle of changing lanes to overtake is not my idea of good design. And compared to the zigzag gated shifter on my last SUV, I much prefer the pull back and go action in this shifter. But each to their own.

Yeah, good point, you either love it or hate it. Plenty or feeling on both sides of the debate.
