I have to add this great quote from an Australian auto site:

So you don't shift the vehicle into park even though you thought you had but failed to observe the illuminated P on the stick or the red P on the driver display for whatever reason (maybe you are blind) in addition to, you have not engaged the park-brake, in addition to, you have ignored the warning chimes and the message that your vehicle is not in Park but you exit the vehicle anyway and finally you don't notice your engine is still running. Perhaps a bicycle is a better choice of transport for you then.

Nice one, Mozzie. Some people don't like the new style shifter. It is different, for sure, but I found it more efficient, and since it was different it took a little getting used to, but once I got familiar with it I preferred it. Now that I'm in a 2016 and no longer in a 2014, I miss it.

Good one, you got me. Already changed that. The Cavs played awesome and smoked the Dubs in those last three games. Incredible. Congratulations to you and to NE Ohio and NW Pennsylvania, the entire Cavs Nation. I was thinking of Craig Ehlo when the clock wound down... And Ernest Byner too.

My thoughts exactly. People don't want to take action for their responsibility and want a stronger idiot proof design that is the same as it has always been. Illegal and Nitemare both just said they don't want to pay attention and therefore need something else to do it for them. Mind you the design is the same as when they bought the vehicle. I feel like no one drove this SUV. If something is different spend the time getting to know it and if you aren't comfortable get something else.

That's the conclusion FCA and the NHTSA have come to, and I totally agree. Bad design, but not defective.
I wouldn't say it is easy to select the wrong gear, I get it right 99.999999% of the time. Perhaps it is accurate to say it is easy to select the wrong gear if you aren't paying attention, but then rear ending the car infront of you is easy if you aren't paying attention. I guess in this case FCA acknowledged they can do something to prevent people who are doing the wrong thing from having an accident, ie. not paying attention and not using the park brake.

One thing I like about FCA is that they are quick to agree to recalls (toyota fight it tooth and nail, VW are worse), but the downside to this is that people see it as a sign of weakness and an admission they got it wrong.

There is such a thing as paying attention AND putting it in the wrong gear.

Last night I went to pull mine into the garage, pulled the shifter back and it went into N instead of D. I noticed it and clicked it one more time.

I paid attention, fixed the gear and didn't have my jeep roll away and crash. BUT that doesn't change the fact that it initially it felt like I pulled it into Drive like I do 5-6 times a day, and it went into Neutral instead.

Paying attention ensures you don't get out of the car and damage property or injure people. It doesn't ensure you hit the right gear 100% of the time.

My biggest issue with the shifter isn't Park and Neutral, it's REVERSE. Getting this shifter into Reverse quickly is a crap shoot.

Again, this is moot. The NHTSA and FCA both decided the shifter's design was crap and they recalled + replaced it.

If you have a 14-15 you get a software update. In 2016 they complete replaced it with a traditional-style shifter.

If Chrysler REALLY thought the shifter wasn't the problem, they would have just put this software fix in every car going forward, and not spend the $$$ on a new shifter.

They COMPLETELY replaced it for MY16. Seriously, that ends any argument that the shifter doesn't have problems.

Yeah, I know. Never said it was. I think you're just interpreting my sentence wrong.
