No it doesn't, since there are many other possible reasons, like people like the older style.

When I test drove a '15 I didn't like the shifter at all. I decided to keep my '12. Don't you think the salesman reported that to his manager, who reported it to the owner, who reported it to ChryCo? Do you think I'm the only one who gave that type of feedback?

It's not DEFECTIVE.

That's the conclusion FCA and the NHTSA have come to, and I totally agree. Bad design, but not defective.
This I agree with.

I've told the story a few times. I've been to two SRT Track Experiences, and both times multiple people complained about the shifter in the Jeep. One of the instructors even said, "We all hate it. We've told the engineers".

People hate it because it's a bad design. That bad design also makes it hard to get in the right gear sometime. These are the reasons the shifter is gone.

People are still out there trying to say there is literally, nothing wrong with the shifter and we're all just lazy. It's hilarious.

That statement doesn't make a lot of sense...."getting in the right gear all of the time" :

Whether driving on the road or on the track (and not parked!):

A. You would be in D or S and using the gearbox shifting algorithms.
or
B. You would use the paddle shifters.

The issue seems to be people not putting the car into Park, which is the easiest gear to get in, along with D/S.

One reason I can think of for the change of shifter is the paddles. With the new shifter you can now turn off the paddles and use the shifter to manually select gears. Much easier to use in turns.

After 2 years of driving this car this just doesn't happen to me very often. Ok maybe if I'm in a hurry and my thumb slips off the button or something. But my previous toyota had a traditional shifter and I probably missed gears just as often.

I did find getting reverse tricky for the first month or two but after a while it becomes easy to pick R. It's 2 clicks from D or 1 click from P. I wonder sometimes if some GC owners actually have different shifters to mine.

Re: Actor Anton Yelchin killed by Grand Cherokee in Neutral

Another Data Point: As I stated previously, I am a part time driver of my wife's GC.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to drive the GC again, this time paying attention to the "shifter". I still had trouble getting the into reverse after being in drive. I shifted it into Park twice before I finally got it correct.

No, I wasn't looking at the dash indicator or my shifter . I was trying to parallel park so my attention was out the window and mirror checks.

OK, so according to some of you here, I guess I am one of the idiots that shouldn't be driving...

So...
On the return trip home, I had no issue with the tranny. I did have a damn glitch in my seat cooler fan that was stuck on low and I couldn't move it to high. Damn electronics...Then it dawns on me...the shifter is also electronic. NO tactile feel of shifting into gear as with a mechanical linkage. No solid detent or "gate" to help you feel the position. Just a simple electric motor in the tranny.

As a side note, I do ride motorcycles and despite the shift pattern, it is still a solid , mechanical clunk.

It's entirely possible that the electronic switch failed in the transmission and Anton thought it was in Park. If I can't get the fan speed set correctly, then what makes you think the "other" electrical components don't have issues either..

So, like myself whom my daily driver is not a GC and the thousand of rental car users that get a GC: How are we expected to react to a 'working" but flawed execution of this simple process?

A system that perplexes enough people to have the FCA redesign it going forward and the government taking action on this issue.

Then again, I guess we are all morons in the eyes of some...
